Here’s how the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander stacks up vs. the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with some off-road capabilities

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee price starts at $37,390 and goes up to $63,365, according to Edmunds. There are a variety of trim levels within that range to choose from, starting with the base model Laredo. This comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that puts out 293 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk price starts at $56,030, and it only comes with four-wheel-drive. It’s built for off-road, with all-terrain tires, an adaptive air suspension, and an electronic rear limited-slip differential. In addition, the Trailhawk has an electronically disconnecting stabilizer bar, hill ascent and descent control, and front tow hooks.

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander doesn’t have an off-road trim level

Although the name might imply a certain ruggedness, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander doesn’t have the option for an off-road trim level. The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander ES price starts at $27,790. This comes with a four-cylinder engine capable of 181 hp matched to a continuously variable transmission and a continuously variable transmission. 

For under $30,000 you’ll also get a push-button ignition, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a six-speaker sound system. It’s also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, according to Edmund. Yet despite all of these great attributes, there’s nothing that makes the Mitsubishi Outlander a capable off-roader. In fact, while the Mitsubishi Outlander has a too safety award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety )IIHS) and the Jeep Grand Cherokee does not, there’s little else that Mitsubishi does better than Jeep in terms of an off-road SUV. 

They’re both loaded with features

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is technologically up-to-date. It also comes with LED lights, heated mirrors, and keyless entry and ignition. The Grand Cherokee has an 8.4-inch touchscreen and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It even comes with six USB ports as well as a six-speaker sound system.

If you want the most high end Outlander, you’ll want to look at the SEL Launch Edition. The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL Launch Edition price starts at $37,040. This trim level combines everything in the two trim levels below it, the SE Launch Edition and the SEL with Touring Package The SE Launch Edition has everything in the SE trim level, like the ES Convenience package, which has 20-inch wheels and Mitsubishi connect. The SE Launch Edition also has a silver trim, automatic wipers, and heated mirrors. In addition, the SE Launch includes a hands-free liftgate, keyless entry, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander vs. the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee a close battle? Not when it comes to off-roading. If, however, you want a safe midsize SUV, then the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander may be a better choice anyway.
