Ford now reports its electrified sales results along with its Truck and SUV sales. The company is starting 2022 with a 167.2% increase, year-over-year, for total sales. Overall, the company sold 13,168 electrified vehicles in the first quarter.

The Ford C-Suite should be high-fiving each other as the company saw its shar of the market raise five points to just over 10 percent of the segment.

Those sales were led by the Mustang Mach-E. So far this year the company has sold 2,370 2022 Mustang Mach-Es, compaed to 238 in the same time period last year, for a growth of 895.8%. It certainly outpaced what the critics thought could happen.

Confusingly, Ford also sells an E-Series van that is not electrified. It’s simply a name leftover from the old EconoLine days.

The Mustang Mach-E, despite its confusing name, has been a sales hit for Ford, and an award winner. The company sold tons of the crossovers, or as Ford says, an e-SUV. For 2022 the Mach-E starts at $43,895. You can order it in an all-white Premium Ice White Appearance Package. But, the one we want is the Mach-E GT Performance Edition, which the company says can reach 60-mph in 3.5 seconds, compared to the base model’s 5.8-second time.  

The Mach-E is leading the charge, so to speak, but will it take on the F-150 Lightning?

The 2022 Mustang Mach-E can be ordered in five different flavors. The Select is the base SUV, and it can be ordered in rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. From there, the Premium, California Route 1, GT and GT Performance Editions round out the Mach-E lines. Each version gets a price increase, but also a features and speed increase.

The new sales figures show that new Mach-Es only sit on dealer lots for just 14 days before they’re sold.

Could the E-Transit Van be the next sales leader?

Ford is launching an EV Transit van in 2023 in Europe. First, it’s launching the first E-Transit in Europe “to help Ford Pro satisfy strong customer demand to electrify European fleets.”

Already Paris, Madrid, London and Rome will not allow combustion-engine cars in their many city centers in 2024. That means all of the delivery trucks that have been spewing pollutants will need to be replaced by something electric.

The van looks like a regular Transit, and it’s built at Otosan’s Gölcük plant in Kocaeli, Turkey. Already, Ford says, it has 5,000 orders. It will be the first of five electrified Transit vehicles Ford is making for Europe.

In the US, the E Transit is already winning fans. The company says that 10,000 orders have been placed for new E-Transits and they are already being delivered to US customers. The E-Transit is a two-seater, but it can carry 3,880 pounds of payload in the back. The 2022 E-Transit starts at about $43,000.

We all (should) know about the 2023 F-150 Lightning

Ford isn’t counting orders for the 2023 F-150 Lightning truck in its electrified vehicle sales charts. Yet. But when it does, look out. The company says it has 200,000 reservations for the Lightning. Of course the $100 refundable reservation is more of a show of hands than purchase. Regardless, the Lightning is one of the most anticipated trucks of 2023.

The Lightning will have enough juice, the company says, that it can power your home in an emergency, or run electric tools at the job site off its 11 outlets. It will be offered with two battery options, a standard 230-mile version and an extended 320-mile version.

Lightings will be four-wheel-drive, with two motors. Lightnings will also be quick, with a 0-60 time in the mid-four-second range.
