You might be thinking, “the what popped up where?” But it’s true. The 2022 Nissan Ariya electric vehicle popped up at Expo 2020 Dubai recently after a long hiatus away from the spotlight. What’s going on with the highly anticipated electric vehicle from Nissan?

Where has the 2022 Nissan Ariya been hiding?

Much like everything else in production these days, perfecting the Nissan Ariya has been a slow process. However, the Nissan Ariya made an appearance at Expo 2020 Dubai recently. Since Nissan is an official partner of the event, it was a good time to bring the all-electric crossover back into the spotlight. According to Gulf Business, Nissan made a lot of announcements at the event.

Nissan will be opening the Nissan Intelligent Factory at the Tochigi Plant plant. It also revealed Nissan EV36Zero, a $1.3 million flagship Electric Vehicle (EV) Hub in the UK. This will help further the research on zero-emissions vehicles.

The automaker decided to showcase the 2022 Ariya due to the all-electric nature of the crossover. What other information did Nissan reveal?

What is the pricing for this new 2022 Ariya electiric vehicle?

In the official Ariya press release, Nissan said, “the Ariya, a 100% all-electric crossover SUV, lets customers travel farther while enjoying greater driving excitement, confidence, comfort, and connectivity.” Back in June, Nissan announced that the Ariya would be available for pre-order in Japan.

The limited-edition lineup will offer two battery sizes, two powertrains, and other features. The Ariya B6 limited edition two-wheel-drive (2WD) model will have a 63 kWh (usable) battery. Other models will be released after that. The Ariya B6 is slated to start at $57,000, and later models will start at around $43,000. The B9 (2WD) will offer an 87 kWh (usable) battery.

Nissan says the Ariya B6 e-4ORCE limited edition (all-wheel drive) starts at $63,000. Up from there, the Ariya B9 e-4ORCE limited edition (AWD) will begin at $69,000. The battery life is the same as the 2WD version.

The limited edition will also offer a panoramic glass roof and premium Nappa leather. Nissan will also include kick plates, plush floor mats with a Japanese stone garden motif. Sounds quite stylish.

The Nissan Ariya is a symbol of the next chapter

It isn’t clear when the Ariya will show up in the U.S. The press release says, “Nissan will begin taking pre-orders for the Ariya in other launch markets later this year.” Buyers will use the new Nissan Shop@Home features, which won’t require customers to go into a dealership.

Nissan says that the Ariya serves as a symbol of the next chapter in mobility for the company. The new Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM) technologies will be a significant part of this new chapter. That includes technology such as the recently announced ProPILOT technology. ProPILOT is Nissan’s answer to autonomous driving on the highway.

According to Thierry Sabbagh, managing director at Nissan Middle East, the Nissan Ariya is a descendant of the company’s first EV in 1947. In the spirit of design, the 2022 Ariya looks a lot like an old Nissan Murano. It also has some styling cues from the Nissan Leaf. But overall, the Ariya looks a bit uninspired for such a momentous product release.

Either way, it sounds like the 2022 Ariya is hitting the market soon after all. Keep an eye on the pre-order news for the Japan release.
