The 2022 Nissan Frontier NISMO Is Being Put to the Test
Giddy up, it’s finally time for the 2022 Nissan Frontier NISMO to be put to the test. This Nissan Frontier Pro-4X model has been enhanced to tackle the 2021 Rebelle Rally. Let’s see if this truck has what it takes to win.
The 2022 Nissan Frontier NISMO is ready to race
In order to prepare for the 2021 Rebelle Rally, the 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X received upgrades from the Nissan motorsports division (NISMO). It also carries a retro look that’s a throwback to the Nissan Hardbody trucks that raced in the ’80s.
Sorry gentlemen, the 2021 Rebelle Rally is a women-only event. It’s an off-roading navigational competition that spans over 1,400 miles of the western desert in the United States. Fifty teams of two that include a driver and navigator will put their trucks, SUVs, and crossovers to the limit for 10 days.
The competition starts on October 7 at the Hoover Dam. No modern navigation tools are allowed. You have to use maps, map tools, and georeferenced coordinates to reach certain checkpoints.
How is the Frontier NISMO enhanced?
For the Rebelle Rally, the 2022 Nissan Frontier NISMO received four-inch off-road lights, a cat-back exhaust, Axis wheels, all-terrain tires, and an off-road suspension kit. The kit includes a two-inch lift with monotube shocks and remote reservoirs.
But it seems to be missing a few items. The suspension kit has been specifically tuned for additional weight, such as overlanding gear. But the Frontier in the Rebelle Rally didn’t gain the steel pumper or roof rack for a tent.
However, the Frontier Pro-4X is already well equipped for off-roading. This model comes with a Dana rear axle, Bilstein off-road shocks, three skid plates, and an electronic locking rear differential.
The 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 that generates 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. The part-time four-wheel-drive system includes hill descent control. Plus, trailer sway control comes standard.
Who is behind the wheel of the Nismo Frontier?
The 2022 Nissan Frontier NISMO will be driven by Sedona Blinson and Lyn Woodward as part of Team Wild Grace. These ladies will be competing in the 4×4 class for traditional trucks and SUVs with traditional two-speed transfer cases.
This competition is based on points, not speed. Green checkpoints have visual markers, like flags, and blue checkpoints may not have flags. Black checkpoints are the most difficult to find. Points are awarded based on how close teams get to the center of each geolocated position.
Sedona and Lyn will face some serious competition in their Nissan Frontier from Jeep, Toyota, Mitsubishi, and more. But we’re sure they are ready for the 1,500 miles of desert between Nevada, Arizona, and California.
The 2022 Frontier starts at about $27,840. Going for the Pro-4x increases the price to about $37,240. Adding NISMO parts will cost even more. Also, the NISMO equipment can be added to X’terra models.
We hope this means that the Nissan Xterra isn’t dead! Maybe a new model will be in the Rebelle Rally soon. We will keep you updated on the results of this all lady event. Good luck, Team Wild Grace.
