We have bad news for the Nissan Frontier. It doesn’t have the best resale value. In fact, it’s ranked with the trucks that have the worst resale value. But we are wondering why. The 2022 Nissan Frontier received significant updates, making it seem more valuable. 

What is the 2022 Nissan Frontier’s resale value? 

According to MotorTrend, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is expected to only retain about 58 percent of its resale value over five years of typical ownership. This means that the Frontier has one of the worst resale values out of every truck available. 

The Frontier is in the top three options that lose the most value. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is the second to worst option. It’s expected to maintain 57.2 percent of its worth over five years. Also, the Honda Ridgeline has the worst resale value of all and could only keep 56.9 percent of its price. 

On the other end of the spectrum, the Ford F-150 has the best resale value and is predicted to maintain 64 percent of its worth. Also, the Toyota Tacoma landed in second place and may retain 63.5 percent of its resale value over five years. 

Why does the Frontier have a weak resale value? 

The 2022 Nissan Frontier just got a brand new exterior look, updated tech, an improved interior, and new engine options to make it more competitive against rivals. However, this doesn’t mean it will maintain its worth. 

Its low score could be related to its reliability ranking. The Nissan Frontier has a slightly below-average reliability rating. It’s considered to be less reliable than competitors such as the Toyota Tacoma. 

With proper care and maintenance, the Frontier can make it past 100,000 miles. However, some owners are sharing that their trucks have made it over 200,000 miles. 

Meanwhile, the Toyota Tacoma can make it to between 300,000 to 400,000 miles with proper care and maintenance. Some owners have reported that their Tacomas are still going after surpassing 500,000 miles. 

Critics recommend avoiding used Frontier models with over 100,000 miles because that’s considered high mileage. That’s when the truck might start needing frequent and more expensive repairs. 

What do critics like about the Frontier? 

Even though the 2022 Nissan Frontier has a shorter predicted life span compared to other options, it’s still an excellent mid-size truck to consider. 

It has a standard 3.8-liter V6 engine that cranks out 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.8 seconds and provides smooth transmission shifts. The upgraded suspension absorbs impacts extremely well for comfort during daily drives. 

With the Frontier Pro-4X, you get a 9.8-inch ground clearance, upgraded all-terrain tires, enhanced shocks, an electronically locking rear differential, and skid plates. 

The interior features massive, zero-gravity seats, a 9-inch infotainment system, a wireless phone charging pad, a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster, plenty of storage cubbies, and a panoramic sunroof. 

The Frontier’s reliability ranking is based on previous models. The 2022 trim has plenty of upgrades that could help it last longer. Its resale value could increase over time.
