Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier SV a Good Truck?
The Nissan Frontier has long been Nissan’s mid-size truck. And for 2022, it has notably increased in popularity with sales following below only the new Toyota Tacoma. But, with a range of trim levels available, determining which Frontier is the right one to buy may be a difficult task. In order to get the best 2022 Frontier, you do not necessarily have to climb to the top trim level. And that is because the Nissan Frontier SV is a good truck. It offers much of what most drivers need and nothing that they don’t.
What is the Nissan Frontier SV?
The Frontier SV is a step above the base trim of the Nissan Frontier. Depending on the configuration, the 2022 Frontier SV has a starting cost of $31,040. And that makes it relatively affordable compared to other mid-size trucks. The SV Frontier can be had as either a short cab or a cab with four doors. Additionally, it can be equipped with either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, depending on your specific needs.
When you opt for the SV trim on the Nissan Frontier, you will get convenient features like a power driver’s seat and more stylish wheels. Additionally, the sliding rear window will allow you to open the cabin of your truck up. Which is likely to be appreciated by those who want a connected feeling to the open road.
Does the 2022 Frontier have 4WD?
While the new Nissan Frontier comes standard with RWD, 4WD is an available option. This will come in handy for those who live in northern states with snow or truck owners who like to take the road less traveled. The Frontier can come optioned with 4WD which will slightly increase the cost, but we think it’s probably worth it for most.
When equipped with 4WD, the 2022 Nissan Frontier SV can tow up to 6,470 pounds and can haul up to 1,440 lbs in payload. This gives this truck genuine usability thanks to a standard V6 engine, especially if you find yourself towing or hauling often.
Should you buy a Frontier SV?
If you are interested in a mid-size truck, the new Frontier SV is a decent option. It is relatively affordable and features a standard V6 engine. Where other brands will charge more for a V6, Nissan has decided to make a 3.8-liter V6 as standard fare. According to Car and Driver, it makes 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. But, it is worth noting that the manual transmission is no longer available to Frontier models. So, something like a Tacoma may have the upper leg if you prefer to shift on your own.
The SV Frontier may not have as much capability as say, a Nissan Titan or Frontier PRO-4X, but not everybody needs that from their truck. Even with this more basic trim level, buyers will still get a mid-size truck that offers utility without having to break the bank. And we feel that makes the 2022 Nissan Frontier SV a truly good truck to consider buying.
