The 2022 Nissan Frontier Just Upset the Toyota Tacoma
The 2022 Nissan Frontier might be sorry, not sorry, for taking a win away from the Toyota Tacoma. The Toyota Tacoma couldn’t pull off becoming the official Mid-size Pickup Truck of Texas because the Nissan Frontier stole the show.
The 2022 Nissan Frontier defeats rivals as the Mid-Size Truck of Texas
The brand new 2022 Nissan Frontier is starting to defeat rivals for coveted awards such as the Mid-size Pickup Truck of Texas. The Toyota Tacoma probably wanted to win because its big brother, the Toyota Tundra, won the Full-Size Pickup Truck of Texas award.
It would have been pretty cool for the Tacoma and Tundra to take home these awards, but Texans voted honestly. The aging Tacoma couldn’t compete with the refreshed Nissan Frontier to steal the hearts of the Lone Star state.
Why does Texas like the 2022 Frontier?
The 2022 Nissan Frontier was put through various tests to become the Mid-Size Pickup Truck of Texas by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA). Winners were determined during the TAWA Truck Rodeo.
This three-day event is held at Star Ranch in Bee Cave, Texas, and puts trucks through the paces on and off the pavement. The Frontier was driving on back roads and taken through the woods.
On gravel roads and dirt trails, the Frontier displayed unmatched capability, comfort, and refinement. Kristin Shaw, TAWA President, shared that it’s clear that Nissan put a lot of work into redesigning the Frontier, and it shows.”
She continued to explain that TAWA members were impressed by its prowess both on and off the dirt. It also provides an updated and comfortable interior. Kristin is glad that they had the opportunity to put the Frontier through the paces, Texas-style.
Jared Haslam, Vice President of Product and Services Planning, Nissan U.S., and Canda shared that Nissa is honored to be recognized again by the Texas Auto Writers Association. Texas is Nissan truck country, and the 2022 Frontier is right at home on the ranger, ranches, and backroads.
It features the best-in-class 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque with its 3.8-liter V6 engine. It can tow up to 6,720 lbs when properly equipped. The Toyota Tacoma features an optional 3.5-liter V6 engine with 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. It can tow up to 6,800 lbs.
What’s new for the 2022 Frontier?
You can get started in a 2022 Nissan Frontier for about $27,840. It still rides on an older frame, but the suspension has been revised. It now provides a smoother ride with a quieter interior and features capability upgrades.
For example, the Nissan Frontier Pro-4X includes an electronic locking rear differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, front tow hooks, skid plants, an intelligent around-view monitor with off-road mode, and all-terrain tires.
The new interior includes high-quality premium materials, including Zero Gravity seats. There is a 7.0-inch digital cluster display, and you can upgrade to a 9.0-inch infotainment system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
The Toyota Tacoma may still be rated as a better off-roading truck. However, the Nissan Frontier can hold its own when the terrain gets tough. It also serves as a better daily driver. The Tacoma has work to do if it wants to beat the Frontier next year.
