The 2022 Nissan Frontier now comes with a starting cost of $28,690. While that number is less than $30,000, it begs the question of if the Frontier is still a mid-size truck worth buying. As vehicles become more and more expensive, they have to justify their price. And in the case of Nissan’s new mid-size truck, the price does feel fairly justified. It comes with a standard V6 engine and legitimate capability. But, to get more features, you will have to pay extra.

How expensive is the 2022 Frontier?

The Nissan Frontier starts at around $29,000. For that price, you get a 3.8-liter V6 engine that makes 310 horsepower and 281 pound-foot of torque. In comparison, if you want a V6 in something like the 2022 Toyota Tacoma, you have to pay more. And Toyota’s V6 engine does not make as much power as Nissan’s. 

Now, even though the 2022 Frontier can be had for under $30,000, it can quickly climb above $40,000. If you want the ultimate Nissan off-roader, you will have to shell out for the Frontier PRO-4X. A pickup truck that starts at $38,120 before you add options. 

Should you buy Nissan’s mid-size truck?

If you are interested in a mid-size truck, want a V6 engine, and do not mind something that feels sort of old-school, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is likely the truck for you. The last time Nissan gave the Frontier a major update was back in the mid-2000s. So, for nearly 20 years, the Frontier was in its second generation. Now, that has all changed, as the Frontier is now in its third generation. 

The third generation brings a number of updates, including a revised suspension and the standard V6 engine. Additionally, the interior feels significantly less dated than the previous generation, plus it rides quieter. 

Granted, the Frontier may not feel as premium as some of the competition, but it does feel like a true pickup truck. Better yet, Nissan’s mid-size truck is still available in a range of different trim levels. And that means that it is easier to get the right amount of truck for your specific needs. 

Does the 2022 Nissan Frontier have recalls?

According to Consumer Reports, the Nissan Frontier currently has two recall alerts. These recalls have to do with the seat belts and the fuel system. In terms of the fuel system, the leaf spring could impact the fuel tank which could lead to a fire. The seat belt bracket may have been installed wrong, leading it to not function properly. 

The good news is that it is on the manufacturer to fix these issues at no cost to the consumer. So if your Frontier has been impacted by a recall, you will receive a notice via mail to visit your local Nissan dealership. Still, these issues can be annoying, but no car is immune to recalls, and it does not mean the Frontier is not a good pickup truck.
