2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S: Supercar Speed Rematch
It doesn’t have the technological edge anymore, but the Nissan GT-R is still a seriously speedy supercar. And that goes double for the even sharper and faster 2022 GT-R NISMO. However, it has a major rival in the form of the 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo S. This hyperdrive in car form already faced the GT-R NISMO over in the UK once before. But now, YouTube team Throttle House has brought these supercar titans back for a rematch.

Although the Nissan GT-R was a supercar bargain when it debuted, the 2022 GT-R NISMO brushes past the $200K mark. And the NISMO Special Edition, with its exposed carbon-fiber hood and forged aluminum wheels, is likely even pricier.
What’s even more surprising, though, is that despite being the most expensive Porsche 911, the base Turbo S is actually slightly cheaper than the NISMO. Admittedly, only by about $3000, but still. However, once you start adding options, the GT-R quickly becomes the more affordable choice.
The 2022 Turbo S isn’t just the priciest Porsche 911, though: it’s also the fastest. And if you pay $10,340 extra, it gets even faster and lighter with the Lightweight Package.
This does remove the rear seats and some sound-deadening material, but it does add carbon-fiber bucket seats and thinner glass. Also, Porsche re-tunes the adaptive shocks to drop the ride height by 0.8”. The result is an internal-combustion car that embarrasses the Model S Plaid in a straight line on a real road. And, as the above table suggests, it can embarrass the 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO, too.
But don’t necessarily count the GT-R out quite yet.
This supercar rematch’s location might make a difference
Throttle House’s race testing mirrored the 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO’s and Porsche 911 Turbo S’ previous encounter. The hosts ran two ¼-mile drag races, one from a standing start and the other from a rolling start. So, given these supercars’ last clash, you’d think the 911 would be the easy winner.
However, it’s worth noting that when Throttle House ran the GT-R NISMO against the C8 Corvette, the Nissan won. That doesn’t seem impressive at first, but on paper, the C8 meets or beats some of the GT-R’s numbers. Yet, even so, the GT-R emerged victorious.
In addition, 0-60 times don’t always reflect real-world performance results, but 5-60 times often do. And in Car and Driver’s hands, the GT-R NISMO was only 0.1 seconds behind both 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo S models. Or rather, the pre-2020 model, without weight-saving carbon-ceramic brakes and carbon-fiber body panels, was only 0.1 seconds behind.
In short, the 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO isn’t completely out of the running.
Can the 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO beat the 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo S?
Unfortunately, though the 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO Special Edition can match the Porsche 911 Turbo S over a short distance, the ¼-mile was just too much. In both the standing- and rolling-start race, the 911 Turbo S Lightweight beat the GT-R NISMO. And it beat it by over a car length, too.
Admittedly, the GT-R is still in its R35-gen form, while the 911 has advanced two generations since the R35 debuted. So, it’s not terribly surprising that the most extreme current Turbo S can beat the GT-R. However, with Nissan mulling over hybridizing the GT-R, the next-gen NISMO might be a 911 killer.
Regardless, this supercar rematch goes to the 911.
