$161,000 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Tested At 186 MPH for Over 3,100 Miles
While the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 might’ve arrived with questionable styling, its performance is undeniable. With a $161,000 base price, this track-ready Porsche has to perform and stand the test of time. To test this, the German carmaker torture tested its prototype car to extreme degrees.
A new report by Motor1 indicates that this required running the car at 186 mph for over 3,100 miles. For context, this amounts to almost 17 hours at full throttle, only stopping for gas when necessary. Despite the harsh test, the engine reportedly performed flawlessly. As a result, a couple of track days shouldn’t cause the GT3 even to break a sweat.
How fast is the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3?
Part of what makes the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3’s engine, so impressively durable is that the German automaker has been developing it for quite some time. In fact, Car and Driver report that the naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six in the GT3 is a variation of the engine found in last-gen’s Speedster. This gives us over 500 hp and a 9000-rpm redline.
Like all other Porsche 911 GT3 models, power goes exclusively to the rear wheels. In terms of transmissions, you can have a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
Equipped with the lightning-fast dual-clutch transmission, the brand-new GT3 can reportedly hit 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Put your foot completely to the floor, and you’ll eventually hit a top speed of 197 mph.
However, the true benefits of his new generation showed up on the Nüburgring Nordschleife. That’s because this new model is over 12 seconds faster than its predecessor around the iconic track.
The prototype covered more than 3,100 miles at 186 mph
To ensure that the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 can sustain this heightened level of performance long-term, the development team dreamed up some stress tests. According to Motor1, the car’s development team had to go to Nardo’s oval track in Italy. This is where the team maxed out the new GT3 near its top speed for over 3,100 miles.
To ensure that this track-ready sports car can sustain these performance levels, Porsche’s engineers borrowed heavily from the GT3 Cup race car. The most vital component is a brand-new oil supply system which features seven suction stages.
“The engine in our 911 GT3 Cup race car essentially differs in respect of just two components: the exhaust system and the engine control unit. Everything else is identical,”
Thomas Mader, Porsche Engineer via Motor1
In total, the all-new 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 spent 22,000 hours at the track undergoing testing under various high-stress scenarios.
How much does a Porsche 911 GT3 cost?
As you might imagine, this level of engineering is far from cheap, and the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 certainly isn’t. In fact, this sports car carries a $161,000 base price. With plenty of optional extras available, that price could easily blow past the $200,000 range. Regardless of how expensive it might be to buy, at least you know you’re getting a product that is essentially bulletproof.
