The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Is Too Fast for the Street, but the Porsche 911 GTS Isn’t

Thankfully, Porsche makes an almost-GT car for the street: the Porsche 911 GTS. It’s laughably quick, sure, but it’s also a far more streetable car than the super expensive, razor-edge GT3.

How much is a 2022 Porsche 911 GT3?

Broad strokes first. A 2022 Porsche 911 GTS will run you $136,700 MSRP. That’s a lot of money, yes, but that’s also the better part of twenty-four thousand dollars off the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 MSRP of $161,100. Of course, all that’s before options, which Porsche is notorious for. Power is way down from the GT3 as well, but that’s not a bad thing.

Car and Driver tested the Porsche 911 GTS and found it to have 473 hp and 420 lb-ft. That’s a big number, but not as big as the GT3’s 502 hp and 346 lb-ft. Of course, that omits the GT3’s biggest Achilles’ heel on the street, which Matt Farah so kindly pointed out in the video above.

The Porsche 911 GTS is just GT enough

A 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 will rev to 9,000 rpm. That’s a lot. It gets there with the help of a lightened flywheel, which Farah says is a little tricky around town. In short, that 9000 rpm redline is too high to fully run out the motor on the street. That, combined with the 500+ hp means you’re going too fast too soon. The Porsche 911 GTS slows things down a little, and it’s just enough.

The GTS with a manual transmission will take 3.7 seconds to reach 60, hitting its 7,800 rpm redline on the way. Per Matt’s drive review, that’s still stupid fast, but not so fast you’re frustrated with the upper limits of your $130,000 sports car. And, because the GTS isn’t a full-fat GT car, its softer suspension won’t break your back on the way to work.

In short, the Porsche 911 GTS is the GT-best (sorry). It’s still fast as all hell, but totally usable on the street. There’s no reason a single (or married) person without kids couldn’t use one of these every day, especially if that person opts for AWD at the dealer.
