What is the difference between the 2022 Porsche 911 GTS and 911 GT3?

According to Car and Driver recently, the 2022 Porsche 911 GTS is about as close to a GT car as one can get. The GTS model has been around since the 911 997 generation first came about 12 years ago. Since then, it has made significant moves for the Porsche lineup.

The 2022 911 GTS comes in a coupe, convertible, or Targa top. The new 911 GTS price is about as expected, starting at $136,700. The top trim, the Targa 4 GTS, is going to run you $158,150. It also comes in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive options, even though the Targa only comes in AWD.

But the 2022 GT3 is just as spectacular, if not too spectacular. The GT3 is just a lot of car for the average driver. In fact, Car and Driver says it is “optimized for driver engagement and track-day glory.” The current GT3 lineup only has two models. However, Car and Driver surmises that a 911 GT3 RS is on the way. The 2022 911 GT3 price starts at $161,100, the same as the Touring Package GT3.

The 2022 911 GTS has 473 hp at 420 lb-ft of torque. The GTS has a 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds to 3.7 seconds, depending on whether you get the Sport Chrono package or not. It offers a top speed of 193 mph from the twin-turbo engine. It comes in a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

For the GT3, drivers are going to benefit from 502 hp and 346 lt-ft of torque. It comes in a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 0-60 mph time of this one is 3.3 to 3.9 seconds.

But the main difference between the two Porsche 911 models is that the GT3 is a fit for the track or the street. It might be too much for some drivers to speed around in for daily activities. On the flip side, the GTS might be too boring for some. Both of these Porsche 911s come pretty close to perfect.

Is this even really a competition?

Porsche has put a lot of work into the GTS range for 2022. The brand will offer it on the 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 (RWD Coupe and Cabriolet). Plus, the 911 Targa 4 AWD version will get a GTS version. According to Porsche, the new GTS gets a nice horsepower boost.

But there’s no arguing about the GT3. The GTS is a perfect car, and so is the GT3. It comes down to what drivers can get ahold of. The GT3 is pretty hard to get and requires a few other purchases before even getting on the allocation list (most of the time). The GTS might be able to fall into a new buyer’s hands. Either way, you probably won’t regret buying any of the 2022 Porsche 911 lineup, let’s be honest.
