This 2022 Porsche Boxster Is the $100,000 Daily Driver You Can Use Year-Round
Porsche has built a reputation. No, not the whole “Porsche car go fast” one. Well, that too, but we’re talking about the brand’s reputation for usability here. Even their smallest car, the 2022 Porsche Boxster (and Cayman) is an incredibly usable and comfortable piece of kit. Now, the Boxster looks even better with the 25th Anniversary edition.
It’s built to resemble the Boxster concept from, you guessed it, 25 years ago. It’s also the best-looking Boxster around.
The Porsche Boxster Anniversary is the best looking Boxster
Perhaps the most obvious change to this Boxster, as Matt Farah points out in the video above, is the styling. Porsche designed the 2022 Porsche Boxster Anniversary to look just like the concept from 25 years ago. Honestly, it really works. Like the concept, this car features some bronze accents that really tie the whole thing together.
Notably, the new car gets the same bronze air intakes, wheels, and trim accents as the concept. It also gets only one interior color choice: red, just like the concept. However, you can choose between white, black and silver paint. While the silver does look fantastic, it’s hard not to want to go for the black on bronze look.
The new Boxster suffers from the “Cayman Complex”
As for the act of driving the thing, Farah reports the 2022 Porsche Boxster Anniversary drives like, well, a Porsche. Which is to say very good. The Boxster Anniversary can also be specced to be just a hair more comfortable than the full-on Boxster Spyder. That starts with a folding hardtop and Porsche’s adaptive dampers.
The combination of those two options means the $100,000 Boxster drives great all day and every day. That hardtop will also surely be welcome for those in winter climates, but a set of snow tires would be necessary for year-round driving. Notably, the 2022 Porsche Boxster Anniversary also gets the 4.0 liter flax-6 from the GTS models and an optional manual transmission. Power output is set at 349 hp, more than enough for the 3,100 lb roadster.
How much is the Anniversary Boxster?
Happily, as Matt points out, the special Anniversary edition won’t run you a great deal more than a standard Boxster Spyder. Yes, $100,000 is ridiculous money for a small roadster, but at least Porsche isn’t gouging you for the special looks. In fact, a decently optioned Spyder model will come out to roughly the same money. I guess you could say the Anniversary is a bargain?
Regardless, the 2022 Porsche Boxster Spyder is a perfectly usable small car that promises to deliver an incredible driving experience. In summary, it’s classic Porsche, just with some nicer styling cues than many of the other brand’s models. Maybe Stuttgart should just start putting their concepts straight into production if this is going to be the result.
