2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo: This Wagon Sparks Schnell
At least for now, unless you want an EV-swapped classic, the only electric Porsche you can get is the Taycan. Or rather, electric Porsches, because the Taycan now comes in Cross Turismo wagon form. Now, though, Porsche is giving the Taycan—both body styles—the same GTS treatment as the 911, Cayenne, and Macan. And for the wagon, that means a new name and a new look: the 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo.
Less cladding, more zig-zagging: the 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is all about on-road performance
A name like ‘2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo’ requires some explanation. Being that it’s a wagon, Porsche calls it ‘Turismo.’ But rather than ‘Cross Turismo,’ this new model is called ‘Sport Turismo.’ And that’s because the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo has a different focus in mind.
Porsche designed the Taycan Cross Turismo with a mix of on- and off-roading in mind. True, the electric sports wagon isn’t a rock-crawling SUV. But thanks to height-adjustable air suspension, standard AWD, dedicated off-road modes, and protective body cladding, the Cross Turismo can hit the gravel with aplomb. Note, though, the distinct lack of cladding and low ride height on the new Taycan GTS Sport Turismo.
While the new wagon model can still carry a bike rack, it’s not an off-roader, The Drive says. And though the Sport Turismo shares the Cross Turismo’s dimensions and underbody protection, it’s closer in spirit and looks to the Taycan sedan. In other words, while the other Taycan wagons can slide through dirt, the Sport Turismo is meant to “tear up dry pavement,” MotorTrend explains. And that’s where the ‘GTS’ in the name comes in.
For Porsche cars like the 911, the GTS trim is a stop-gap between the high-performance Turbos and less-extreme, more ‘pedestrian’ models. But it’s also arguably the best value because it bundles together several desirable performance packages with some Turbo-style design features. And so it goes with the GTS Sport Turismo.
Parked between the 4S and Turbo, the 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is still one speedy electric wagon

For example, the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo has the same kind of disc brakes as the 4S Cross Turismo, but the front rotors are bigger. However, it rides on the same 20” wheels as the Turbo S. Also, while all Taycan Cross Turismos have standard air suspension, the GTS Sport Turismo borrows its active setup with torque-vectoring from the Turbo. But the Sport Turismo’s suspension is tuned differently than the Turbo’s version. And since the GTS has a lower ride height, its center of gravity is lower. Therefore, it “should corner flatter and be slightly more direct,” MT notes.
Carbon-ceramic brakes, as well as Porsche’s tungsten-carbide rotors, are optional extras, as are active anti-roll bars and rear-wheel steering. However, the Sport Turismo does come standard with the Sport Chrono Package. So, it has extra driving modes, a multi-function steering wheel, active aero features, and dash-mounted analog and digital stopwatches.
Speaking of the dashboard, the Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo has several visual elements that separate it from the 4S and Turbo. It has blacked-out window trim, wheels, GTS badging, headlight bezels, and a rear diffuser, though its spoiler is body-colored. Also, it has a different front fascia and side skirts. And inside, the GTS has blacked-out aluminum trim and suede-like material on the headliner, seats, and steering wheel.
When will this new electric Porsche wagon model hit dealers?
As of this writing, Porsche hasn’t finalized the 2022 Taycan GTS Sport Turismo’s range. But since it has the same 93.4-kWh battery pack as the 4S and Turbo Cross Turismo, it should fall roughly between them. Though keep in mind, Taycan sedans often exceed their EPA estimates in real-world conditions.
Porsche will likely announce the range estimate soon, though, based on the GTS Sport Turismo’s arrival date. The EV sports wagon should arrive in US dealers by Q2 2022, The Drive reports.
