Did you know that Renault has covered more than 6,213,711,922 miles (10 billion kilometers) with more than 400,000 electric vehicles? While the brand has been ahead of the game in Europe, the EV revolution is picking up pace. The brand has a lot riding on the success of the Renault Mégane E-TECH Electric, but it sounds like it can deliver.

The Renault Mégane E-TECH Electric is the start of something new, a press release says. This is the first car from Renault’s new Generation 2.0 electric vehicle lineup. While the brand started this journey about 10 years ago, the Mégane E-TECH Electric symbolizes the beginning of the next chapter.

Renault has been working on getting the Mégane E-TECH Electric perfect. In 2019, Renault released the MORPHOZ concept car. One year later, the Mégane eVision was the next step in the evolution. Renault credits the CMF-EV platform, developed by Alliance.

Everything, down to the new logo, shows the transformation the brand is going through.

The Renault Mégane E-TECH Electric will come with battery options

The Mégane E-TECH Electric comes with two power outputs, Automotive News Europe reports. These options are 128bhp or 215bhp, plus the battery size options of 40kWh and 60kWh. The EV gets almost 300 miles of range with the larger battery option, which is pretty good for a new EV. The other offers 186 miles of range.

130kW DC-Fast charging is available, which offers a 15% to 80% State of Charge (SoC) in 30 minutes.

“With the new Megane, we think we have reinvented the classic European hatchback in an emotional way. This allows us to reconnect with what in the past has made Renault successful.”

Luca de Meo | Renault Group CEO

At this point, Renault plans to release the E-TECH Electric in the first quarter of 2022. The hope is to capture some of the audience in the C segment market, also known as the compact segment. This segment represents 40% of the European market.

This is the first of many new EVs for the brand

Renault has plans to launch 10 fully electric vehicles by 2030. Right now, the Megane comes in a hatchback version as well as a station wagon version. There is also the Kadjar SUV, but all vehicles have failed to make an impression on the market. The hope is that the Renault Mégane E-TECH captures the interest of people enough to jump-start sales.

It sounds like the Mégane E-TECH Electric is going to be fairly small, which is good for that market. European drivers tend to like more compact SUVs and compact cars for a variety of seasons. This happens to be smaller than the Volkswagen ID.4 and more similar in size to the Kia Niro EV.

Plus, 292 miles of range is pretty high for a first impression. It will be fun to see what else Renault puts out after this.
