Snow wheeling is one way to enjoy one of winter’s most beautiful (and dangerous) by-products: snow. Many drivers avoid the snow because it creates difficult driving conditions. Some drivers actively pursue these conditions to put their vehicles and driving skills to the test. If you have the right vehicle to take on obstacles, snow wheeling can be an amazing experience.
In the video above, a 2022 Rivian R1T and 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Off Road battle deep snow. The snow is so deep that the new Tundra TRD Off Road even gets stuck a few times. Nothin’ a little torque can’t fix. The R1T gets stuck as well because of a snow bog.
The YouTubers cross icy ditches and drive over huge bumps in the treacherous terrain. The two off-road trucks handle whatever the drivers throw at them after some time and maneuvering.
The 2022 Rivian R1T is born to adventure
The 2022 Rivian R1T made history when it was sold as the first full-size electric pickup truck in America. The R1T isn’t any old electric truck. It’s an off-road adventure vehicle. The Rivian R1T uses four electric motors to make 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque.
The R1T has an adjustable air suspension. It can go from7.9 inches of ground clearance to a whopping 14.9 inches of ground clearance. The electric truck has a wading depth of over three feet.
Which truck is the better off-roader, the 2022 Rivian R1T or the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Off Road?
According to MotorTrend, four-wheel drive TRD Off Road models include Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select, an electronic locking rear differential, and Crawl Control. The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Off-Road comes with Bilstein monotube dampers, mudguards, and skid plates.
The Tundra TRD Off Road’s suspension upgrades and special off-road upgrades allow the full-size truck to take on obstacles that most trucks would struggle with. Both pickup trucks have incredible off-roading prowess, but one is more capable than the other.
Though you don’t see a huge difference in performance in the video above, the Rivian R1T has the advantage over the Tundra TRD Off Road. The Rivian’s powerful electric motors provide much more horsepower and torque than Toyota’s truck. An electric motor system also doesn’t stall the way internal combustion engines can when faced with obstacles off-road.
The 2022 Rivian R1T’s adjustable air suspension is also a huge advantage when off-roading. It has incredible ground clearance and is designed to easily conquer challenges off-road.
