The 2022 Rivian R1T’s camp kitchen is like nothing you’ve ever seen

Rivian is bringing a lot of firsts to the automotive world. A fully functional slide-out camp kitchen is another first for the full-size pickup truck segment. This EV has several innovative features, but the camp kitchen is perhaps the most unique.

The camp kitchen transforms the R1T into the ultimate camping accessory. R1T owners can already use the R1T’s bed to set up a tent. The camp kitchen takes things to a whole other level. It comes with a collapsible sink, a spray faucet, dish rack, and bottle opener.

The pull-out kitchen also includes a 1,440-watt two-burner induction cooktop that heats up quickly. According to Car and Driver, the stovetop is powered by the R1T’s battery. The camp kitchen can hold four gallons of water. These features are all part of the Rivian Camp Kitchen X Snow Peak package, including a 30-piece kitchen set from Snow Peak.

The R1T’s gear tunnel keeps everything organized, so you don’t have to keep track of where you put which utensils or cooking materials. Whether you regularly camp, glamp, or are looking to appreciate the great outdoors in a new way for the first time, the camp kitchen has got you covered.

How functional is Rivian’s camp kitchen?

If you’ve ever used an electric stove, you know that gas stoves normally work much faster. If you’re hungry, waiting on an electric stove can be torturous. Some dishes also don’t come out the same way when cooked on an electric stove. That’s why Rivian chose to use an induction stove.

In the video above, Rivan’s Senior Culinary Program Manager Josh Glaser demonstrates how to use the camp kitchen. The Rivian employee explains that the two-burner induction cooktop transfers heat well. He claims there’s no wait time for heating pots and pans up on the induction stovetop. Simply fire it up (no actual fire is used), and you can get to cookin’!

The Rivian employee showcases the camp kitchen’s cutting board, sink, and hose. The video also displays the many Snow Peak cooking utensils that come with the package. It even includes lights that Rivian owners can use to light up a campsite as decoration or just for visibility. The Senior Culinary Program Manager has fed as many as 60 people using the camp kitchen to cook.

Should you buy a Rivian R1T?

The Rivian R1T Launch Edition is the only R1T model available at the moment. It boasts amazing performance specs, but it also starts at a whopping $85,000.

The average consumer is more likely to consider the R1T Explore trim base model. The R1T Explore is closer to $60,000 after federal electric vehicle tax incentives. If an R1T Launch Edition is out of your price range, the R1T Explore is worth waiting on. Some consider the R1T to be the best electric truck.
