The Subaru BRZ coupe isn’t the most powerful sports car. It’s not one of the cheapest coupes you’ll find on a dealership lot. And, it’s not even all that popular as far as performance cars go. But it’s one of the most likable everyday sports cars out there. The 2022 Subaru BRZ Limited is an affordable, lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that’s fun to drive and comfortable to be in.

Several reviewers have called the 2022 BRZ the best first sports car you can buy. Keep reading to see why.

The new 2022 BRZ’s improvements make it a more competitive sports car

The Subaru BRZ’s history is pretty short—just about 10 years so far—and in that time, it’s stayed roughly the same. However, Subaru’s redesign for the BRZ’s second generation has made the BRZ Limited a particularly tempting choice.

Enhanced Subaru BRZ specs are courtesy of a new 2.4-liter engine that increases horsepower but not torque. Enthusiasts were hoping for a turbocharged engine for the second generation, but that hasn’t happened yet. This four-cylinder engine can be found on both the Premium and Limited BRZ and helps this little sports coupe compete against rivals like the upcoming 2023 Honda Civic Type R.

The 2022 BRZ Limited price starts at $30,495, but you can find a cheaper model in the Premium, which starts at $27,995.

Redline Reviews gives the 2022 Subaru BRZ Limited a ‘must-see’ rating

Sofyan Bey of Redline Reviews called the 2022 BRZ Limited a “must-see” sports car. While the newest Subaru coupe received what he considers a ”heavy refresh” rather than a complete redesign, it brought welcome improvements without changing the soul of the car.

Though it’s not the most potent sports car, the BRZ offers something a lot of other performance cars—accessibility. Bey calls the new Subaru BRZ Limited coupe ”an easy car to drive” but was clearly having a blast behind the wheel.

The Subaru BRZ Limited interior is ‘not luxurious’

While the 2022 Subaru BRZ Limited is the fully loaded model, Bey claims that its interior is “certainly not luxurious—not the most refined, either.” This is somewhat surprising considering the Limited’s $30,000 sticker price. However, the Redline Reviews host does say that the BRZ Limited’s interior has “everything younger buyers are looking for.”

And, it’s far from barebones. The smooth, sleek cabin features leather and suede at most touchpoints, with premium audio and a wide touchscreen for radio and smartphone media. Integrated safety and driver-assistance features helped the 2022 BRZ Limited to win an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating.

What’s the difference between Subaru BRZ Limited and Premium? Check out a few trim level comparison highlights:

  • The BRZ Premium comes standard with cloth seat upholstery
  • The BRZ Limited offers standard leather- and Ultrasuede®-trimmed upholstery
  • The pricier Limited trim level offers a more advanced sound system
  • Both BRZ trim levels come standard with a manual transmission—an automatic is available

In the video above, Bey points out that the 2022 BRZ Premium “comes with most of the features you’d want.” However, it’s only a few thousand more to upgrade to the BRZ Limited and get some extra niceties.

If you’re looking for more, the aftermarket offers thousands of options for a customized Subaru BRZ.
