2022 Subaru BRZ Makes Another Appearance Ahead of Global Debut
As the global debut of the 2022 Subaru BRZ draws closer, more teasers have begun to surface. The second-generation BRZ should see the affordable sports car get some much-needed updates. Subaru first teased enthusiasts at the beginning of October with a close-up photo of the wheel design and lower rocker panel. Now Subaru has released a brand-new image of the car’s hood and headlight showcasing some major changes. Expect to see the full-unveil this November.
The 2022 Subaru BRZ will debut on November 18th
The 2022 Subaru BRZ is set to make its global debut on November 18th. The Japanese carmaker even went as far as adding a countdown to its U.S. website. Although details about the brand new BRZ are scarce, there are plenty of rumors going around. Like the first generation, this new BRZ arrives alongside a brand-new Toyota 86. The sporty siblings are set to share the same chassis, powertrain, and overall styling. Oddly enough, Toyota has yet to release any teasers of the upcoming 86.
The weak 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine was one of the biggest downsides of the original BRZ. Although it developed 200 hp, poor torque distribution meant it never truly felt as fast as it should. According to Motor1, a rumor suggested that this new BRZ will likely get Subaru’s FA24 2.4-liter engine. This new engine should produce 217 hp, a modest increase over the original power figure. Unfortunately for enthusiasts, no current rumors suggest the second-gen BRZ will get the much-needed addition of a turbocharger.
Thankfully, using a familiar engine should mean that the six-speed manual transmission should carry over to the new model. In terms of overall dimensions, the video posted above shows a vehicle with similar dimensions to the original BRZ. Since the first-gen BRZ had a near-perfect weight distribution, this new model should as well.
The teaser photo reveals some important details
Aside from hyping up enthusiasts, the newest image of the 2022 Subaru BRZ reveals some significant bits of information. The main focus of the image is the brand-new headlight design. Like in the first-generation, Subaru has opted to include daytime running lights. Unlike the first-gen, however, the new headlight design isn’t quite as chiseled. The front fenders and hood bulge that follow it aren’t quite as pronounced as in the original BRZ, likely signaling a smoother overall design.
While the hood still slopes downward, we can clearly see some new design elements that follow all the way to the front bumper. Just below the headlight, there’s also what appears to be a small intake, something we also saw in the first generation. The biggest change, however, appears to be the overall width of the front fender. From the teaser image, it appears significantly wider than the original.
How much will it cost?
Since the 2022 Subaru BRZ is poised to receive some major updates, it could also receive a price bump. The current generation has a base price of $28,845. Since the BRZ competes largely at the affordable end of the market, any potential price bump can’t be significant. Subaru has the potential to price out a significant portion of the customer base accidentally. If the first-generation is anything to go by, the subsequent Toyota 86 should come in with a lower base price. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait much longer to learn all of the new details.
