Subaru as a whole seems to be unstoppable. More specifically, the 2022 Subaru Forester continually outpaces the competition in only the most important metrics. Subarus aren’t the most luxurious, the fastest, or the most beautiful cars, but King of the AWD consistently makes some of the most practical and safest cars on the road. For this reason, the 2022 Subaru Forester is unstoppable.

Is Subaru making a 2022 Forester? 

Of course! The 2022 Subaru Forester is out and rolling our streets, highways, and trails as we speak (write). The 2022 Forester comes with the 2.5-liter flat-four making 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. Although this motor leaves some drivers with a sense of being underpowered, the truth is, power and speed just aren’t really the Subaru way. 

The Forester makes up for its lack of power in nearly every other way. According to Cars.com, there are two main factors that should earn the forester a spot on any car buyer’s list. 

Is the 2022 Subaru Forester worth it? 

The newest Subaru Forester clinched its fourth straight IIHS Top Safety Pick + award. This is no small feat, and for many drivers, safety is the most important aspect of any car. For instance, famed writer and comedian Tina Fey bought a Subaru Forester as her first car ever a few years ago, solely because of how well-rated they are for safety.

According to the IIHS, to earn a Top Safety Pick + award, “a vehicle must score good ratings in a series of IIHS crash tests, including driver-side small overlap, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength, and head restraint tests. Additionally, an available front crash prevention system must be rated as advanced or superior in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluation.” 

Aside from all those other safety requirements, cars hoping for this award must also have at least one headlight system and must earn a good or acceptable score. This must prove true across all models and trims. 

Is the Subaru Forester good off-road? 

For the 2022 model year, Subaru released its incredibly cool Wilderness Edition. So far, the Outback and Forester are the only two available in this trim. It happens to be the coolest trim of the Subaru line. It takes the incredible AWD system and builds the rest of the car to more efficiently use the system for offroading. This means upgraded suspension, wheels, tires, and body armor. It makes the Forester and Outback more capable off-road, but it also looks unique to the rest of the line. 

When I had my 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness tester, I took it deep upstate New york in the winter, and it bopped around the snowy trails like it was driving down the road. The ease at which the AWD system maintained traction and handling despite the slippery conditions was nothing short of amazing. What’s more, you get all this performance, safety, and style for a reasonable price.

How much is the 2022 Subaru Forester? 

One of the best parts of the Forester is that it comes with so many great qualities without ever having to break the bank, at least compared to the rest of the market. The 2022 Subaru Forester starts at $27,070 for the base model, and the new Subaru Wilderness starts at $34,695. Compared to other SUVs, especially ones so strong off-road, $34k is an attractive starting point. 

Considering the entire package, it is tough to find find a vehicle these days this practical and still with a touch of edge, at least with the Wilderness trim. The Subaru Forester is unstoppable. We might as well accept it, buy one, and keep it moving.
