2022 Taycan GTS Sport Turismo: Electric Porsche Perfected
Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo article highlights:
- The 2022 Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is the electric Porsche wagon’s new mid-level on-road-performance-focused trim
- It sacrifices some off-road features, but it upgrades the 4S with several usually-optional features and some Turbo-sourced components
- The 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is expensive, especially with some options, but it’s arguably the high-water mark of the Taycan range
Last year, Porsche expanded its electric offerings beyond sedans with the Taycan Cross Turismo wagon. And for 2022, the Porsche EV selection grows again with the addition of a Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. Since the 2022 Taycan sedan was already MotorTrend Car of the Year finalist material, some might think there’s nothing for the wagon to add except extra space. However, this new sporty wagon might be the best electric Porsche yet.

As with other Porsches, the ‘GTS’ plate on the 2022 Taycan GTS Sport Turismo signifies several things. First, it’s a mid-range model; in the wagon’s case, it falls between the 4S and Turbo. Secondly, it’s not only an upgrade over the lower trims, but it also borrows some bits from the higher ones.
The 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is a bit different than the Taycan GTS or 911 GTS, though. Other Taycan wagons bear the ‘Cross Turismo’ name, whereas this one has ‘Sport.’ That’s because this electric Porsche estate sacrifices some off-road credentials in favor of extra on-road performance.
So, while the Sport Turismo still has some underbody protection and standard AWD, it doesn’t have body cladding like the Cross Turismo. Also, it rides 0.7” lower on its recalibrated adjustable air suspension. Furthermore, in Sport mode, it drops a further 0.4”, Car and Driver notes.
But while the 2022 GTS Sport Turismo isn’t the best choice for shredding gravel, this electric wagon’s performance upgrades make up for it. It has bigger front brakes than the 4S and gets the Turbo’s bigger battery and torque-vectoring capabilities. Plus, it comes standard with the Porsche Sport Chrono Package, which nets you active aero features, extra driving modes, a multi-function steering wheel, and some nifty analog/digital stopwatches. And that’s on top of the GTS-specific blacked-out trim, side skirts, and suede-like interior touches.
The Drive calls the 2022 Taycan GTS Sport Turismo “the best electric Porsche”
Besides those standard features, Porsche offers a plethora of performance and luxury upgrades for the 2022 Taycan GTS Sport Turismo.
On the performance side, you have things like carbon-ceramic brakes, active anti-roll bars, and rear-wheel steering. These, like the air suspension and steering, are tuned specifically for the GTS, The Drive says. And you can equip your electric Porsche wagon with features like carbon-fiber interior trim, a panoramic glass roof, lane-change assist, adaptive cruise control, and roof racks.
However, you don’t need most of these extra features when the base version is this good. On the highway, the 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is “calm, quiet, almost serene,” The Drive reports. As of this writing, the EPA hasn’t released range estimates for the GTS Sport Turismo. Porsche claims it can beat the 4S Cross Turismo’s 215-mile estimate, Car and Driver reports. And if it’s the same as the Taycan sedan, this sporty wagon might even beat that range in real-world conditions.
Speaking of sporty, the Sport Turismo lives up to its name. It rotates “like a sports car weighing half as much,” and carves corners with aplomb and remarkable accuracy, The Drive gushes. And the electric power steering delivers a remarkable level of feedback. Plus, it’s “very quick and very responsive,” MotorTrend adds. The brakes are strong and confidence-inspiring, with no awkward transition between regen and friction braking.
Yet despite the recalibrated air shocks and lower ride height, the Sport Turismo still has a compliant ride. Add in comfortable sport seats and the practicality of its wagon shape, and you have a stellar electric Porsche recipe. A stylish one, to boot.
‘Perfected’ doesn’t quite mean ‘perfect’
The 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo might be excellent overall, but it’s not quite flawless.
Firstly, its regenerative braking doesn’t allow for one-pedal driving like in many other EVs, MT notes. Though on the plus side, having to actually press the brake pedal means that this electric Porsche behaves like a gasoline-powered one, which some drivers might appreciate.
Secondly, although the ride is decent for a sporty car, it is a tad firm. And on poor-condition pavement in its sportiest settings, it’s “downright uncivil,” MT says. That’s the trade-off you make with standard 20” wheels and a focus on performance.
Finally, the Sport Turismo gets expensive real quick once you start adding options. Many of its ADAS features are optional, for example, as are power-folding mirrors. And even the $161,000 car The Drive tested didn’t have ventilated seats. But then, it’s not like expensive Porsche options are anything new.
Still, none of these issues are necessarily deal-breakers. With a bigger battery than the 4S and a lower price tag than the Turbo, the 2022 Taycan GTS Sport Turismo strikes a fine balance between sportiness and livability. It’s not perfect, but it’s one of Porsche’s best electric efforts yet.
