2022 Tesla Model 3 vs. 2023 Genesis GV60: Which EV Is Quicker to 60 MPH?
In the electric car world, Tesla has cemented itself in the public eye as the gold standard that other automakers need to keep up with. And why not? Tesla has produced some of the quickest and most tech-savvy electric cars on the market, and there are no signs of the California-based automaker slowing down. Cars like the Model 3, for example, lead the way when it comes to performance-oriented electric propulsion.
However, the Tesla Model 3 has some competition. One such rival is the Genesis GV60, which is a newcomer to the segment. This odd little electric hatchback exudes a surprisingly different level of comfort and performance. In fact, it’s pretty quick. But just how quick is it in comparison to the Tesla?
2022 Tesla Model 3 vs. 2023 Genesis GV60: Performance
When it comes to performance, it’s hard to beat the 2022 Tesla Model 3. In its base form, the Model 3 comes in a RWD format and produces 279 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. According to Tesla, those power figures equate to a 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds, which is pretty quick. But if you want supercar-like acceleration, then choosing the Model 3 Performance is in order.
The high-performance version of the Model 3 has 450 hp and an AWD configuration that helps propel the car to 60 mph from a standstill in only 3.1 seconds. For reference, that’s about as quick as a Lamborghini Aventador.
On the other hand, the base model 2023 Genesis GV60 has 314 hp and a standard all-wheel-drive configuration. But if you’re looking to keep up with a Tesla, you’ll have to upgrade to the GV60 Performance with its dual-motor setup and 429 hp. That’s a lot of power, but the GV60 has a trick up its sleeve in the form of a Boost button.
When the button is pressed, the horsepower figure goes up to 483 for up to five seconds. That extra power enables the car to from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.4 seconds.
Ultimately, that means the Tesla can beat the Genesis by a small margin every time. The added plus is that there is no Boost button needed.
Tesla Model 3 vs. Genesis GV60: Charge times and driving range
Performance aside, one of the most important aspects of owning an electric car is its driving range and charging time. The Genesis GV60 has a 77.5 kWh battery pack that offers a 248-mile range on the base model and a 235-mile range for the Performance trim. As for charging, the GV60 has fast-charging capabilities so that it can charge up from 10-80% in just 18 minutes.
For the Model 3, the base RWD configuration comes with a 60-kWh battery pack, which powers the car up to 272 miles on a single charge. The AWD Performance and Long Range models are strapped with a larger 82-kWh battery pack. The bigger pack allows for a driving range of 353 miles on the Long Range and 315 on the Performance model. When it comes to charging, the Model 3 can go from 5-90% in only 37 minutes.
As we can see, the Tesla Model beats out the Genesis GV60 when it comes to battery life and charging as well.
Which EV is the better choice?
If you’re only looking at the performance side of the EV equation, the Tesla Model 3 is the obvious choice. Tesla did an outstanding job in blessing the Model 3 with super-quick acceleration and internal combustion-like range. However, if you’re looking for an EV with a unique sense of style and tech-savvy features to match, the Genesis GV60 is a great choice.
