The 2022 Tesla Model 3 Has 3 Problems, Says U.S. News
Telsa’s smallest, most affordable electric vehicle (EV) has a lot to offer. However, like every other popular car, it’s not perfect. In fact, U.S. News pointed out that the 2022 Tesla Model 3 has a few issues that keep it from EV perfection. Check out some of the Model 3’s problems, like its less-than-spacious rear seats.
Does Tesla Model 3 have issues?
The Tesla Model 3, like any other vehicle on the market, has its issues. Moreover, the 2022 model year is no different. Here are some of most significant complaints about the EV:
- Distracting infotainment system
- Tight rear seating
- Less refined ride than comparable EVs
Beyond the ride, space, and infotainment issues, the Model 3’s starting prices keep it out of reach for consumers who want an EV but have a budget more akin to a Nissan LEAF or Chevrolet Bolt EV.
The Tesla Model 3’s infotainment system can be ‘distracting’
While the 2022 Tesla Model 3’s imposing 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system is a sight to see, it can be distracting. For instance, the Model 3’s screen serves as something of a command center for the car’s functions, and navigating the menus and submenus can be too involved while driving, per U.S. News.
Additionally, the touchscreen system controls everything from entertainment to climate control and windshield wipers. As a result, using the screen can be tedious while underway. Moreover, the entire Tesla lineup forgoes the inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. That’s an issue many fans and potential owners have complained about for years.
According to Not a Tesla App, the EV automaker doesn’t want to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as it might “break up the Tesla experience.” Still, aside from the reliance on the big screen, the Tesla’s cabin and functionality lean on elegant simplicity more so than some competitors.
Can you fit 5 adults in a Tesla Model 3?
While the Tesla Model 3 is the smallest EV in the automaker’s lineup, it will seat five passengers. However, its back seats are tight, so lengthy trips might be uncomfortable for large adults.
Tesla fans who want more space for their rear-seat dwellers might want to consider a larger Model Y. However, U.S. News says the 2022 Tesla Model S’ front seats are comfortable, accommodating, and sufficient for hours of driving.
Is a Tesla Model 3 a smooth ride?
The Model 3 shines in many capacities, but its ride isn’t one of them. For instance, TrueCar says the Model 3 is “forgiving of bumps and road surface imperfections.” However, U.S. News states that the ride is overly firm for a luxury EV.
So, while the Model 3 isn’t up to Bentley or Maybach standards of ride quality, it receives some accolades for its ride relative to its price point.
Despite its issues, the 2022 Tesla Model 3 is a fine example of a well-executed EV
While the Model 3 has minor problems like a firm ride and dominating infotainment system, it has many redeeming qualities. For example, the 2022 model has a Long Range trim that promises around 358 miles of driving range on a single charge. Also, the Model 3 gets top-notch scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in terms of crashworthiness and crash avoidance.
