Toyota Camry Hybrid vs. Hyundai Sonata Hybrid: similarities and  differences

These two cars have some striking similarities. The difference in case prices for both the Camry Hybrid and Sonata Hybrid is only a few hundred dollars. These two midsize cars are nearly identical in length, width, and height. Both offer good interior and passenger room, and both offer over 50 mpg combined.

But, the differences between Camry Hybrid vs. Sonata Hybrid are enough to make it a really tough call. The Camry Hybrid’s larger powertrain offers more horsepower and torque, a more powerful driving performance, and better city fuel economy. The Sonata Hybrid offers more standard features, a premium interior, and a more comfortable ride.

The 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid has a classier cabin

U.S. News gives the Sonata Hybrid sedan better marks for its “classy cabin quality.” Premium cloth seating comes standard on all models, with leather seating surfaces offered standard on the top-of-the-line Limited. Heated front seats are standard on the SEL trim and above, while ventilated front seats are standard on the Limited. The Sonata Hybrid’s touchscreen is larger than the Camry Hybrid’s at all levels.

The 2022 Sonata Hybrid boasts an impressive warranty

The 2022 Sonata Hybrid comes standard with a 10-year/100,000-mile hybrid battery warranty and the same coverage for all of its hybrid system components. This sedan is also covered by a 7-year/unlimited-mile anti-perforation warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty.

The 2022 Camry Hybrid does boast a competitive hybrid battery warranty of 10 years and 150,000 miles—models before 2020 were only covered for eight years or 100,000 miles). Toyota’s hybrid system warranty is still at eight years and 100,000 miles. Its anti-perforation warranty only covers five years, and its basic warranty is only three years or 36,000 miles. A 5-year/60,000-mile warranty covers the Camry Hybrid’s non-hybrid-system powertrain.

Hyundai’s warranty has always trumped Toyota, but the Camry Hybrid’s enhanced hybrid battery warranty may mark a future shift.
