Corolla Cross vs. C-HR: Performance, efficiency, and towing

On the performance front, the Corolla Cross outmuscles the C-HR. It has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which generates 169 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. In comparison, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder variant in the C-HR produces only 149 hp and 139 lb-ft of torque. However, with its shorter turning diameter (34.2 vs. 35.4 feet), the C-HR is slightly more maneuverable than the Corolla Cross.

For efficiency, the Corolla Cross edges the C-HR. It has an estimated fuel economy of up to 31 city/33 highway mpg, compared to a gas mileage of 27 city/31 highway mpg for the C-HR.

While small crossovers are not the “go-to” choice for towing a heavy load, the Corolla Cross is the only one that is rated for towing. It has a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.

Corolla Cross vs. CH-R: Safety

Both the Corolla Cross and C-HR offer a plethora of safety features. This includes electronic stability control, brake assist, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor. However, unlike the Corolla Cross, the C-HR has cross-traffic alert and auto-leveling headlights.

Both the Corolla Cross and C-HR are more suitable for on-road driving than off-road excursions. However, the Corolla Cross is the only one to offer an all-wheel drive system. Also, the Corolla Cross has a considerably higher ground clearance than the C-HR (8.1 vs. 5.9 inches).

The Corolla Cross offers more space for passengers, with a total passenger volume of 95.0 cu-ft, compared to 86.0 cu-ft for the C-HR. However, the C-HR has more storage space, with a maximum cargo capacity of 37.0 cu-ft, compared to 26.5 cu-ft for the Corolla Cross.

Corolla Cross vs. CH-R: Interior features and technologies

The Corolla Cross and C-HR offer a similar roster of interior features and technologies. This includes a touchscreen infotainment system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, HD Radio, satellite radio, an adjustable steering wheel, and keyless start. 

Corolla Cross vs. CH-R: Price/value

For price/cost, the Corolla Cross and C-HR have a similar price range. The starting prices for the 2022 Corolla Cross range from $22,195 for the base L trim up to $26,325 for the XLE trim. While the pricing information is not yet available for the 2022 C-HR, it likely won’t differ much from the 2021 C-HR. The starting prices of the 2021 C-HR range from $21,695 for the base LE trim up to $26,750 for the Limited trim.
