The 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is a compact hybrid sedan that competes with the likes of the Honda Insight and Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. It’s extremely fuel-efficient and can keep up with the best of them when it comes to sipping fuel, however, it can’t exactly keep up in a drag race. That being said, the Corolla Hybrid is slow, but it makes up for that small deficit in a few different areas.

The 2022 Corolla Hybrid is actually pretty comfortable

I had the 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid for a week and during my time with it, I found it to be quite comfortable. The Corolla Hybrid comes with a cloth interior as standard equipment, but my tester was outfitted with a “premium interior package” that included a Softex leather interior, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support.

While I had no use for the heated seats during this time of the year, I found the driver’s seat to be surprisingly comfortable, even on long drives. Also, although the Corolla is a compact car, every other seat was actually pretty comfortable and my 5-foot, 8-inch frame had no issues fitting in them – even the rear middle seat.

It can get over 600 miles on a single tank

The 2022 Corolla Hybrid’s most redeeming quality, which no one would argue with is its stellar fuel economy ratings. According to the EPA, the Corolla Hybrid is able to achieve up to 53 mpg in the city and 52 mpg on the highway. But remember, those ratings can easily change when you drive the car in real-world situations.

For example, I live at a mile-high elevation, which is known to have a great effect on cars since the air is thinner – leaving naturally aspirated cars like the Corolla gasping for air. This, in turn, usually has a greater effect on a car’s fuel economy. But when it came to the Corolla Hybrid, the elevation didn’t seem to hinder its fuel economy much. In fact, according to the car’s onboard computer, I averaged over 60 mpg during the week I had the car.

By comparison, the Corolla Hybrid is in the middle of the pack compared to the Honda Insight and Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. The fuel economy estimates for the Insight and Elantra are 55 city/49 highway and 49 city/52 highway, respectively. That means that the Corolla Hybrid can likely best the Elantra in real-world stats. And it could also give the Honda Insight a run for its money.

The Corolla Hybrid is one of the most affordable hybrid cars in the market

In addition to its amazing fuel economy and comfort, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid is also one of the most affordable hybrid sedans on the market. With a starting price of $23,650, the Corolla Hybrid is cheaper than a Prius ($24,525), the Honda Insight ($25,210), and even the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid ($23,750). Considering the Corolla Hybrid’s other two redeeming qualities, its lower price is the icing on the cake.

Sure, the 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid might be slow, but that’s not what it’s about. Instead, it’s meant to be an affordable and comfortable hybrid sedan that provides buyers with some of the best fuel efficiency in the market. Fortunately, it does just that.
