The 2022 Toyota Highlander is Consumer Reports’ second-best SUV, behind only the 2022 Kia Telluride. It’s a three-row SUV with loads of features and good reliability ratings. Yet the Highlander isn’t quite as spacious as some of its midsize SUV competitors. So is the 2022 Toyota Highlander worth its price?

How much is the 2022 Toyota Highlander?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander price starts at $36,420 for the base model L. There are a total of six trim levels available, with the Platinum being the most expensive. The 2022 Highlander Platinum price is $50,725.

The 2022 Toyota Highlander L comes with 18-inch wheels, LED lights, and heated mirrors. It also has keyless entry and ignition, an 8-inch infotainment system, and a six-speaker sound system. In addition, the Highlander is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and has a WiFi hot spot.

There are a total of six Highlander trims: the L, LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum. Each of these ups the niceness of the Highlander with add-ons like roof rails, a sunroof, and a heated steering wheel. If you have the budget for higher trim levels and packages, you’ll get yourself a really nice Toyota SUV.

The Highlander interior is nice

The 2022 Toyota Highlander interior is very nice. It’s roomy with comfortable seats, though the third row isn’t quite as big as other SUVs. The Highlander also doesn’t have as much cargo space as some three-row SUVs. If you’ll be buying the Highlander for use with a larger family or regularly transporting a lot of things, you may want to look elsewhere.

If you’re only going to use the third row sparingly, you’ll love the Highlander’s interior. Edmunds notes that the 12.3-inch touchscreen that’s available as an add-on is the same one as in Lexus SUVs. There are also add-ons like a hands-free liftgate, digital rearview mirror, and intercom. Edmunds says, “Pair these with the Highlander’s comprehensive set of advanced driving aids, and you have a recipe for one of the better three-row SUVs on the market.”

Is the Highlander a reliable car?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander has a reliability rating of 5/5 from Consumer Reports. Even recent Highlanders have excellent reliability ratings – both the 2020 and 2021 get a 5/5 for reliability. With reliability ratings like this, you can feel pretty confident that the Highlander has a low chance of unexpected problems. Still, there are no guarantees.

The predicted owner satisfaction score of the 2022 Toyota Highlander is a 4/5. It has excellent scores for both its driving experience and comfort, but its value score is just so-so, at a 48/100. The styling score is very good, at 80/100.

The 2022 Toyota Highlander is one of the best three-row SUVs on the market and its price makes it competitive with other three-row SUVs in the class. Still, it doesn’t have quite as much space as other competing SUVs, so if you have a larger family, this may not be the right SUV for you. Yet the 2022 Toyota Highlander is a great SUV and if you don’t need that third row regularly, it’s definitely worth its price.
