These safety features are important for teen drivers

If you’re shopping for a new SUV for your teen driver, you’ll want to be aware of the safety features that you need in your new vehicle. It may not be possible or affordable to get every single feature recommended by Kelley Blue Book (KBB), but you should aim to include as many as possible in your new vehicle.

The most important safety features include anti-lock brakes, stability control, and traction control. These three safety features are required to be on all new vehicles, so if you’re buying new, you’re all set. You should also look for forward collision warning and blind-spot monitoring. Forward collision warning will issue a signal if there’s a possible collision. Blind-spot monitoring will alert the driver if there’s a vehicle in the blind spot with lights on the side mirrors.

Some 2022 Toyota Highlander features are nice for teens

In addition to the most important safety features, there are some other safety features that are pretty important, if you can find – and afford – them. These include outboard mirrors with turn-signal indicators, power-driver’s seat, and automatic climate control. A tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel is a good feature to have for teen drivers, as is adaptive cruise cruise control and automatic high beams. Other features that are great for teenagers like hill-start assist, head-up display and an infotainment system that comes with voice recognition. Airbags (at least six) are good to have, as are automatic headlights and 360-degree cameras.

The Toyota Highlander L comes with Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.5

Safety Sense 2.5 also has lane tracing assist, and road sign assist.

In addition, the Highlander L comes with color-keyed outside mirrors that are heated. These also have turn signals. The L comes with LED projector headlights, LED taillights, and daytime running lights. The L has automatic climate control as well as enhanced vehicle stability, and Safety Connect. The LE and Limited include a few more safety features

The 2022 Toyota Highlander LE adds on to the safety with blind spot warning on the side mirrors and a  tilt/telescopic steering wheel. It also adds on features that make the Toyota Highlander even nicer to drive. In between the LE and the Limited are the XLE and XSE which include upgrades to both regular features and safety features.

The Limited adds on front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking to help your teen be able to park more easily. As with the LE, the Limited includes tons of nice features that make your SUV feel like a luxury SUV.
