We evaluated several areas for this comparison between the 2022 Toyota RAV4 and the 2022 Nissan Rogue. This includes performance/efficiency, technology, safety, passenger/cargo space, and price/value. Neither SUV completely dominated, for each one has strengths in different areas.
RAV4 vs. Rogue: Performance/efficiency
For performance, the RAV4 offers three powertrains: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a hybrid powertrain, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain (RAV4 Prime), which can drive on electric-only power for 42 miles. The fully gas-powered RAV4 generates 203 hp, while the RAV4 Hybrid has a total system output of 219 hp. For even more power, you can opt for the RAV4 Prime, which has a total system output of 308 hp.
For efficiency ratings, the RAV4 has a combined estimated fuel economy of 30 mpg for the gas-powered model and 40 mpg for the RAV4 Hybrid. The ultra-efficient RAV4 Prime is rated at 94 MPGe when driving only with electric power and 38 combined mpg in hybrid mode.
All Nissan Rogue models have a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo 3-cylinder engine, which generates 201 horsepower. The Rogue gets an estimated combined fuel economy of up to 33 mpg.
RAV4 vs. Rogue: Technology
The RAV4 and Rogue offer many of the same technologies. This includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a wireless smartphone charging pad, Bluetooth, and a navigation system. The RAV4 has a standard 7-inch and available 8-inch and 9-inch touchscreens for the infotainment system. In comparison, the Rogue has standard 8-inch and available 9-inch versions.
RAV4 vs. Rogue: Safety
With both the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue, you’ll get many of the same types of safety-enhancing driving assistance features. This includes a pre-collision system, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist, dynamic radar cruise control, and automatic high beam headlights. However, unlike the RAV4, the Rogue has an automatic rear braking system.

The Rogue has the advantage for passenger space. It has a total passenger volume of 105.4 cu-ft, compared to 98.9 cu-ft for the RAV4.
For cargo space, the comparison results are mixed. With the rear seats in the upright position, the Rogue has 36.5 cu-ft of storage space, compared to 37.6 cu-ft for the RAV4 gas-powered and hybrid models and 33.5 cu-ft for the RAV4 Prime. With the rear seats folded down flat, the Rogue has a cargo capacity of 74.1 cu-ft, compared to 69.8 cu-ft for all RAV4 models.
RAV4 vs. Rogue: Price/value
Which crossover SUV costs more: the 2022 RAV4 or the 2022 Rogue? The starting prices of the 2022 RAV4 range from $26,525 MSRP for the LE trim up to $43,125 MSRP for the RAV4 Prime XSE trim. While the pricing information is not yet available for the 2022 Rogue, it likely won’t differ much from the 2021 Rogue. The starting prices of the 2021 Rogue range from $26,050 MSRP for the S trim up to $35,830 for the Platinum trim.
However, the higher price range for the RAV4 is due to the RAV4 Prime. Plug-in hybrids like the RAV4 Prime are typically more expensive than gas-powered models. The Rogue doesn’t offer a plug-in hybrid. Also, with the RAV4 Prime, you may be eligible for the $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit.
While the RAV4 offers free scheduled maintenance for the first two years/25,000 miles of ownership, you have to pay money for a similar type of plan for the Rogue. Also, higher trim models of the RAV4 offer unique services. This includes free concierge service and Remote Connect, which enables you to perform remote functions from your smartphone, such as start the engine and lock/unlock the doors.
