After spending plenty of time with the Toyota RAV4, it’s easy to understand why it’s such a popular SUV. It’s well-rounded, practical, and includes tons of value. However, no SUV is perfect, and the 2022 Toyota RAV4 has one potential flaw to correct. 

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 has one drawback to consider 

One of the 2022 Toyota RAV4 issues that we can’t seem to get past is the infotainment system. The RAV4 was recently updated, so we expected to discover modern and advanced tech, but the infotainment and audio system are adequate. 

Lower trims get a 7.0-inch touchscreen, but it can be upgraded to an 8.0-inch unit. The system works quickly, but the graphics look dated. The system seems a little blurry. Plus, the backup camera is grainy as well. 

Out tester had parking sensors to make navigating through tight spots a little easier. However, we were squinting at the screen. Some models offer a 360-degree surround view, and we wonder if it looks better. 

Also, we had the TRD Off-Road trim, which is a higher trim level. We expected it to be loaded. But it didn’t have the head-up display or the panoramic sunroof. The passenger seat doesn’t even have power controls.

What we like about the Toyota RAV4 

Aside from the dated tech, there are plenty of great things we discovered about the 2022 Toyota RAV4. Plus, not all of the tech was disappointing. The digital cluster display is easy to use and displays crucial off-roading information. 

The RAV4 also feels confident and well-controlled while off-roading. The Hill Descent Control feature and off-roading modes for sand and gravel provide real-time adjustments to prevent slipping and sliding. 

But the RAV4 is also comfortable on the pavement. The TRD tuned suspension absorbs impacts incredibly well. Typically off-roading vehicles have a rougher ride on the road, so this was a pleasant surprise. 

Some critics feel like the RAV4 is underpowered and not sporty enough. However, the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine pumps out 203 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. It reaches 60 mph in 8.0 seconds. 

This amount of power is ideal for merging into traffic and passing others on the highway. Plus, we averaged about 30 mpg all week. 

What comes with the RAV4? 

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 has an MSRP of $26,525. It does seem a little high, but at least the RAV4 has a solid reliability ranking and resale value. The base model is a little spartan with cloth seats. 

But it comes with LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a six-speaker sound system. Each model comes with forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition.

Moving up to the RAV4 XLE trim adds keyless entry and ignition, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone automatic climate control, and more USB ports. 

The RAV4 has plenty of space, a smooth ride, a fair amount of power, and can be equipped to tackle the wild. It’s one well-rounded SUV. However, it could use some tech updates.
