If you’re in the market for a new minivan, give the Toyota Sienna a chance. The 2022 Toyota Sienna Platinum may surprise you with the luxury comfort and sporty performance that it provides. But is moving up in trim levels worth it?

Is upgrading to the 2022 Toyota Sienna Platinum worth it?

You can get started in a 2022 Toyota Sienna for about $34,710. This is a fair price for a three-row vehicle. But you can up its luxury game by going for the Sienna Platinum instead. It’s the top-of-the-line trim level, and it increases the price to about $50,000.

That seems like a lot, but this price provides luxurious comfort with plenty of savings. Other three-row SUVs, like the Chevy Tahoe, begin at around $50,200 for the entry-level models. Why not treat yourself to more high-quality and convenient features for less?

What comes with the 2022 Sienna?

According to Edmunds, each Toyota Sienna model comes with a hybrid powertrain that’s powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors to pump out 245 hp. An increase in power could make moving up in trim levels a little more enticing.

Also, each model includes forward collins mitigation, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring.

With the Sienna LE, or the entry-level trim, you get:

  • Power-sliding doors
  • LED headlights
  • Three-zone automatic climate control
  • Power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • Second-row sunshades
  • Seven USB ports
  • 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Six-speaker audio system

If you upgrade to the 2022 Toyota Sienna Platinum trim, you get:

  • Premium leather seating
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated seats in the second row
  • Extendable footrests for the second-row captain’s chairs
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Upgraded headlights
  • Power-folding exterior mirrors
  • 12-speaker JBL audio system
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • 360-degree camera and parking assist
  • Third-row sunshades

It seems like the main upgrades involve passenger comfort. People in the rear will be able to stretch out with their footrests and enjoy heated seats. But from personal experience, the 360-degree camera is great for the driver.

The camera displays a top-down view of the Sienna and its surroundings for tight areas. It helps you maneuver around other cars and obstacles with ease. Also, the wireless charging pad is convenient, and the JBL audio system provides immersive sound quality.

You can save with the Toyota Sienna XLE trim, which adds convenience features such as the power rear lift-gate, sunroof, simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Is the Sienna Platinum worth buying?

Yes, the 2022 Toyota Sienna Platinum is an excellent option to consider. I’ve spent a week with the XLE model, and now I’m spending time with a 2022 Platinum model, and the upgrades are very noticeable.

The seats are even more comfortable than before. The upgraded leather is softer to the touch with an excellent amount of support and cushion. I also like seeing more with the 360-degree backup camera.

Another perk that comes with the Platinum trim is the auto-dimming digital rearview mirror. It provides enhanced visibility in traffic. The Sienna is large, but you can confidently see all the space around it.

The rain-sensing windshield wipers also came in handy while driving through a sleet storm. I didn’t have to adjust them constantly. Instead, I got to relax in a massive heated seat with a heated steering wheel.

I used the head-up display to monitor my speed and direction, and the digital cluster gauge reminded me of the temperature and potentially slippery conditions.

The difference in quality between each trim level is there. However, the standard Sienna offers plenty of value if you don’t want to upgrade.
