Traditionally, the Toyota Tacoma has been a successful mid-size truck, and for 2022, that fact has continued. The 2022 Tacoma is available in a variety of trim levels and offers a number of different features, allowing buyers to get the proper amount of truck for their needs. One trim level that may catch your eye is the SR5 package. This package brings a range of features to the table, making it ideal to fulfill a variety of needs. So, is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma SR5 a good truck?

What is the Tacoma SR5?

The Toyota Tacoma SR5 is a step above the base Tacoma. It features things like fog lights, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and more. Additionally, it is available with either four-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. These things come together to make the SR5 a decent truck that is worthy of consideration.

Another perk of the SR5 is the different configurations. With multiple cab and bed options, finding the proper truck for your specific needs is an easy task and is something that is likely to be appreciated.

Does the 2022 Toyota Tacoma have a V6?

The Toyota Tacoma has two engine options, one of which is a V6. Because of that, if you want the power of six cylinders, you will need to pay extra. The 3.5-liter V6 engine makes 278 horsepower and 265 pound-foot of torque, that number is less than the V6 featured in the 2022 Frontier, but it should be enough to meet most needs.

The standard engine on this mid-size truck is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder. It makes 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque but should offer more efficiency than the V6 engine. Both engines come mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and unfortunately, a manual transmission is not available to the SR5.

Is the Tacoma SR5 a good truck to buy?

If you are shopping for a pickup and don’t need something as capable as the Tacoma TRD Pro, the SR5 package offers more features than the base Tacoma and has a starting cost of under $30,000. This helps this mid-size truck to be more affordable and accessible to buyers.

Whether you want a 4WD truck or a pickup with a V6 engine, the Tacoma offers both of those features. Other notable equipment includes available automatic climate control and multiple USB ports for charging devices. Plus, this pickup comes with keyless entry which will keep you from having to fumble for your keys to get in your truck.

What generation is the 2022 Tacoma?

The Toyota Tacoma is currently in its third generation. The third generation has been around since 2016, so there could be a major update for the Tacoma coming soon.

That said, the 2022 model still feels modern enough and not as dated as other pickups. In terms of differences between the 2021 model, the 2022 is fairly similar with minor updates. So if buying a brand-new Tacoma is not right for you, it is worth considering an SR5 of a different year.
