Put on your detective hat. We’ve got a mystery about the Toyota Tacoma to solve. For some reason, the 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro seems to be missing in action. Other Tacoma models are available, but the TRD Pro appears to be delayed. 

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is months behind 

If you’re still waiting for your 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro to arrive, you aren’t alone. In October, Jeff Teague of Torque News ordered his model and still doesn’t have it. Meanwhile, the Toyota dealerships have plenty of other options available. 

It’s possible that the TRD Pro needs more semiconductor chips compared to other models. It could be affected by the global chip shortage. There might be other supply chain issues as well. The Ford Bronco has struggled with a few different pieces of equipment. 

But Toyota has kept quiet about the delay. Information about shortages and production cuts go back to 2021, and now we’re in March. The Toyota Tundra was hit with a four to nine-month delay, with the TRD Pro model as the hardest hit option. 

So, perhaps the chips and other limited supplies are going to the new Tundra before the Tacoma is redesigned for 2023 or 2024. 

The Electric Lime Tacoma was announced as the exclusive TRD Pro color for 2022 back in July. Now July is only four months away. Will we see the new TRD Pro color before the 2022 models finally arrive? 

What’s new for the Tacoma TRD Pro? 

We’ve all heard that the Tacoma is aging. However, it was last redesigned in 2016, making it the youngest Toyota model aside from the recently refreshed Tundra. We might see the new Toyota 4Runner before the Tacoma. 

Anyways, despite being a little older, the 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro received incredible updates to become the most capable model ever. Suspension upgrades include a 1.5-inch lift in the front and a half-inch lift in the rear. 

The Tacoma TRD Pro has TRD-tuned Fox shocks internal bypass with new TRD upper control arms. Now it has a 36.4-degree approach angle, 24.7-degree departure angle, and break-over angle of 26.6 degrees. 

The aluminum skidplates, electronic differential, black TRD Pro wheels wrapped in 265/70R16 Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT all-terrain tires help the Tacoma TRD Pro dominate the wild. LED headlights include sequential turn signals, and LED foglights illuminate the trails. 

Plus, the 3.5-liter V6 engine with 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque is available with a six-speed manual transmission. 

Is the new Tacoma worth waiting for? 

If the missing 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro inspires you to wait for the updated model, you might have to wait even longer. Rumors suggest that we won’t see the new Tacoma until 2024, and we haven’t heard about any 2023 updates. 

It’s safe to expect a new powertrain option to give the Tacoma TRD Pro a more modern feel. It could include hybrid or electric powertrains. Also, the interior will be designed to provide more comfort and higher-quality materials. 

The tech could receive upgrades as well. What if the Tacoma TRD Pro got more camera views for off-roading, an enhanced digital gauge cluster, and displays more crucial off-roading information?
