The 2022 Toyota Tundra Can’t Crack the Top 3 Best Selling Trucks
We’re a little shocked that the Toyota Tundra didn’t stir up as much competition as expected. The 2022 Toyota Tundra still falls behind rivals like the Ram 1500, Ford F-150, and Chevy Silverado 1500 when it comes to sales.
The 2022 Toyota Tundra lags behind rivals
According to Fox News, the 2022 Toyota Tundra isn’t ranking in the top three best-selling full-size pickup trucks. We expected the Tundra to shake things up a bit, but it hasn’t passed competitors yet.
During the first three months of 2022, the Ford F-150 sold about 140,701 units. It faced a 31 percent drop in sales, but still maintains its crown as the best-selling pickup truck in America.
The Ram 1500 landed in second place by moving 127,116 units so far this year. The Chevy Silverado 1500 is in third place with 121,107. The competition among the top three trucks is closer than average this year.
The fourth-place truck wasn’t listed, and we’re working to determine how many Tundra models have been sold. We would like to see how every truck is stacking up.
But this information was just for the first part of the year. The Tundra could break into to top three as the computer chip shortage eases up and more inventory becomes available.
How much does the 2022 Tundra cost?
You can get the 2022 Toyota Tundra now. It already went on sale in 2021. The new Tundra has an MSRP of $35,950. This price doesn’t include the destination fee or dealership markups. Also, the top-spec Tundra Capstone increases the price to about $73,530.
The 2022 Ford F-150 starts at about $29,990, the Ram 1500 begins at around $35,900, and you can get started in a Chevy Silverado 1500 for about $33,800. So, the Tundra does offer a competitive price.
Perhaps the Tundra falls behind the competition because it doesn’t offer a V8 engine or a Diesel option. Although, these types of engines might not stick around much longer as they lose popularity and automakers need to meet rising emission standards.
The standard i-FORCE 2.5-liter V6 engine pumps out 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine for 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. Both powertrains are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
When properly equipped, the Tundra can tow up to 12,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,940 lbs. The Ram 1500, Chevy Silverado 1500, and Ford F-150 can tow more.
Is the new Tundra worth buying?
Yes, the 2022 Toyota Tundra is an excellent pickup truck to consider buying. Toyota trucks are known for being extremely reliable and maintaining a high resale value.
For 2022, the Tundra received suspension updates to provide a better ride quality. It now has a coil spring setup instead of the typical lead-spring rear suspension. It could have a smoother ride than its rivals.
With the Tundra TRD Pro, you get a listed suspension, exclusive dampers, 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, an electronically locking rear differential, and skid plates to conquer the wild.
People might be missing out by picking other trucks instead of the Tundra. The Tundra offers refined power, stout off-roading capabilities, and a brand-new interior with advanced tech. It should be in the top three!
