2022 Toyota Tundra: Here is Every Trim Available
The all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra has been officially revealed, and it’s completely redesigned for the third generation. Toyota’s full-size pickup has received a complete transformation to stand up to its competitors. The new 2022 Tundra now has new engines including a hybrid, an advanced five-link rear suspension, and more. Not to mention the redesigned interior and rugged new exterior. The front grille is bigger and will now take up the majority of the front of the truck. The sleek new headlight design makes the Tundra stand out. There are also new odds and ends included with each of the six different trim levels. Deciding which is right for you can be a tough choice. The 2022 Toyota Tundra’s six trim levels are SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, and TRD Pro.
2022 Toyota Tundra SR
The base trim for the 2022 model year remains the same as previous ones, titled SR. The SR trim is available with either a 6.5-foot or 8-foot bed. The hybrid V6 is unavailable for this trim, which comes standard with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Like all Toyota Tundra trims, it’ll come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 which includes automatic high beams, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection. The Tundra SR can only come as a Double Cab.
2022 Toyota Tundra SR5 & TRD Sport package
The next step up from the base 2022 Toyota Tundra is the SR5 trim level. The SR5 has an available larger Crew Max cab option, which comes with either a 6.5-foot or 5.5-foot short bed. The SR5 comes with the same engine as the SR and is the lowest trim to come with the standard towing package. The towing package is standard on all trim levels up starting with SR5. For a two-wheel-drive Double Cab model, the Tundra can tow up to 12,000 pounds. All Crew Max models still have the same power-leveling rear window owners have grown to love.
Any configuration of the Tundra SR5 can be equipped with the TRD Sport package. Though it is the only trim level with it available. Even the remaining more expensive trim levels cannot receive this package. The TRD Sport package features a TRD grille, TRD leather-wrapped shift knob, a TRD lowered sport front suspension, and 20-inch TRD wheels. It also uses TRD-tuned Bilstein monotube dampers instead of the standard twin-tube shock absorbers, which is true for all TRD models.
TRD Off-Road package
The TRD Off-Road package is an optional add-on for the SR5, Limited, and 1794 Edition trims on the 2022 Tundra. The package includes 18-inch TRD wheels on the SR5 and 20-inch wheels on the other two trims. All TRD Off-Road package equipped Tundras will have Bilstein shocks, skid plates, mudguards, a TRD grille, and a TRD leather-wrapped shift knob regardless of trim level. The four-wheel-drive trucks also add Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, and an electronic locking rear differential.
2022 Toyota Tundra Limited & the all new hybrid engine
The Limited trim level is just about the middle of the road option for the 2022 Toyota Tundra. It’s also the first trim level with the available option of a 3.5-liter twin-turbo i-Force Max hybrid engine. It uses an electric motor along with a 288-volt Nickel-metal hydride battery that’s located under the rear seat. The hybrid engine is capable of producing up to 437-hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. The electric powertrain allows Tundra models to drive up to 18 mph on pure electricity, in dire situations.
The interior of the new Tundra Limited receives a complete redesign. The interior was designed and built to look as tough as the exterior while maintaining its luxurious features and amenities. A massive infotainment screen cascades over the rest of the center dash, which features newly vertical buttons and switches. The cabin is made up of Soft-touch material which covers armrests, door panels, and other frequently touched areas. “Piano key” style large switches are now in place to control the HVAC system, hazard lights, locking rear differential, and a few other things.
2022 Toyota Tundra Platinum
Once you’ve reached this trim level, only the Crew Max cab is available with either the 6.5 or 5.5-foot bed. Like the Limited, Platinum has two engine options between the standard V6 and the hybrid. It comes standard with just about every single feature included in previous trim levels. Darker tones on premium materials with contrasting stitching make up the new interior of the Tundra Platinum.
A 2022 Toyota Tundra Platinum cannot tow more than any other trim equipped with the same engine. However, it does add some new towing technology. A rear load-leveling air suspension, two tow/haul modes, Trailer Back Guidance, as well as multiple high-definition rear and side camera angles come standard on the Platinum. The 2022 model year adds the new Straight Path Assist, which steers the truck to aid in reversing a trailer in a straight line.
What is the 1794 Edition?
When Toyota first opened an assembly plant in Texas, the land the company purchased came from the oldest operating cattle ranch in the entire state. The cattle ranch was originally started in 1794, so with this trim level name, Toyota pays homage to that ranch. The 1794 Edition comes only with the Crew Max cab and no long bed option. The 5.5-foot or 6.5-foot bed will be pulled by one of the same two previously mentioned engine options; The standard V6 or the optional hybrid engine. The TRD Off-Road package is available on only the four-wheel-drive version, but a two-wheel-drive 1794 Edition is available.
The 2022 Toyota Tundra’s enormous 14-inch infotainment screen comes standard on the 1794 Edition. Toyota’s brand new 12.3-inch driver information display is also standard at this trim level, which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interior is also outfitted with western-inspired brown leather as you’d expect from a truck paying homage to a cattle ranch. The seats are equipped with heating and ventilation in the front and rear.
2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro
The TRD Pro is the only trim level with the hybrid engine as its standard. Every 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will be equipped with the i-Force Max 3.5L twin-turbo hybrid with 437-hp, four-wheel-drive, and a short bed. What makes this trim level stand out is its off-road features and capability. The TRD Pro comes with 2.5-inch-diameter Fox internal bypass dampers, TRD-tuned springs give it a 1.1-inch lift for that valuable ground clearance. There’s also a new TRD front anti-roll bar, an aluminum front skid plate, Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, an electronic locking rear differential, Falken all-terrain tires, and unique graphics on both the exterior and interior.
The 2022 Toyota Tundra has a ton of different options and capabilities. Choosing the right trim is completely based on a buyer’s needs. The value a truck like the Tundra can provide is immense, but a trim that fits your needs is most important. Whether you just need to haul some weight with the SR or go off-roading in the TRD Pro, the 2022 Toyota Tundra trim levels have something for everyone. With the newly integrated hybrid engine as an available option on most trims, the Tundra can even provide decent gas mileage.
