Finally, the wait for the 2022 Toyota Tundra is over! We can finally see it and start to learn more about it. However, not everything has been released about the new Toyota Tundra yet, and we’re wondering if it did enough. 

Is the 2022 Toyota Tundra strong enough? 

We were a little shocked to discover the the the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro barely has a better payload rating than the Ford Ranger. But isn’t a full-size truck supposed to blow a mid-size option out of the water? 

The Tundra can carry a payload of up to 1,940 lbs, and the Ranger maxes out at 1,905 lbs. But the Ford F-150 Raptor can only carry a payload of up to 1,400 lbs. The TRD Pro may carry less weight, but the official ratings for this model haven’t been released. 

When properly equipped, the 2022 Tundra can carry up to 12,000 lbs. This is an 18 percent increase over the previous generation. But the Ford F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs, and the Chevy Silverado can tow up to 13,000 lbs. 

Does the new Tundra have good engines? 

The 2022 Toyota Tundra has two engine options: 

• The standard i-FORCE 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 generates 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. 
• The available i-FORCE MAC powertrain produces up to 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. 

There isn’t a diesel engine option and only one V6 engine. But automakers seem to be moving away from diesel and V8 engines. Even the Hellcat powerhouse that’s found in the Ram 1500 TRX is being phased out. 

The 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost engine pumps out 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine generates 400 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. So, The Tundra does come with more standard power. 

But despite having more power, it still has a weaker payload capacity. Also, the lack of engine options could come with a higher starting price. You can get started in the 2021 Ford F-150 for about $29,290, and the 2021 Tundra starts at around $34,125. 

It’s good that the Tundra comes with more standard features, but what options does it leave for the people who don’t have an extra $14,000? Also, pricing for the 2022 Tundra hasn’t been released. 

Does the 2022 Tundra look good? 

The 2022 Toyota Tundra got a brand new face and an updated interior. But not everyone seems to like the way it looks. Some people think it looks too similar to the new Land Cruiser. Others feel like it copied the look of the Ford F-150. 

Someone from The Truth About Cars team said the new grille is so ugly that someone should be charged with a crime. It was a joke, but still, that’s a pretty intense reaction. 

But the new Tundra is tough. It has a mew high-strenght boxed, steel-ladder frame, aluminum-reinforced composite bed, and fully redesigned multi-link rear suspension. How it looks might not matter compared to how it rides.  

Also, the Tundra has tons of incredible tech upgrades, including a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen that can be upgraded to a 14.0-inch unit. It had a panoramic sunroof, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an available 12.3-inch digital cluster display. 

We will keep you updated as we learn more about the Tundra. Its price and driving characteristics may make up for the lower payload capacity and lack of engine options. It should reach showrooms by December.
