What the 2022 Toyota Tundra Finally Got Right
The 2022 Toyota Tundra is one of the most popular pickup trucks. Until now, it’s had a pretty important area where it’s lacking: safety. The 2022 Toyota Tundra has fixed the problems that plagued the previous generations of Tundras and kept them from taking home top safety awards. Now, the Toyota Tundra gets safety right. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rewarded it with its Top Safety Pick+ award.
The 2022 Toyota Tundra is now an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ winner
The 2022 Toyota Tundra is now an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ winner. If you’re not familiar with the safety awards from this non-profit organization, the Top Safety Pick+ award is the highest award. It’s given only to the safest SUVs, cars, vans, and trucks that meet the IIHS’ strict guidelines.
To win the coveted Top Safety Pick+ award, a vehicle must have good crash test ratings in all major categories. It also has to have superior or advanced safety systems and acceptable or good headlights standard on all models.
The Toyota Tundra killed it across the board
The 2022 Toyota Tundra safety scores are great. Its crashworthiness scores are all good. In addition, the new Toyota Tundra got a good rating on the Limited with the Premium package, Platinum, 1794, TRD Pro, and Capstone trims. Headlights in the SR, SR5, and Limited trim levels are rated acceptable and its safety systems get ratings of both advanced and superior.
An IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award is important because it helps consumers choose the safest SUVs. By testing vehicles and sharing the results, the IIHS allows consumers to be more aware of potential issues with their vehicles, and car manufacturers have more accountability. The IIHS’ tests have evolved to keep pushing safety standards higher, which is important for both car buyers and manufacturers.
The Tundra is the only truck to get a good seatbelt warning rating
The 2022 Toyota Tundra is the only pickup truck that got a good rating on the IIHS seat belt reminder test. While the safest 2022 pickup trucks tend to have good IIHS ratings, it’s the only one to get a good result in this particular test. The IIHS tested ten pickup trucks to gauge how effective their seat belt reminders were. The Tundra dominated receiving good marks.
So how did it pull it off? The Toyota Tundra had to make an “audible signal and visual alert on the dashboard display, overhead panel or center console when the vehicle is moving at least 6 mph and the system detects an unbelted occupant in the driver or passenger seat or the unfastening of a second-row belt that was previously buckled.”
The 2022 Toyota Tundra is an all-around great truck, and now it also has a top safety award to add to its appeal. If you’re in the market for one of the best trucks around, you can’t go wrong with the Toyota Tundra.
