The 2022 Toyota Tundra’s cost of ownership is pretty good

CarEdge analyzes the cost of ownership for a variety of vehicles and it gives the Toyota Tundra an A+ for cost of ownership. Overall, it says that the average cost of owning a Tundra for five years is $49,069.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra has a pretty good depreciation, as well. It depreciates just 39% after five years. The resale value after five years is expected to be about $32,395.

According to Car Edge, the Tundras value is comparable to pickup trucks from GM, Chevy, and Ford. It says that “the Tundra is in the Top 10 of all vehicles at the 5 and 7-year mark, and should definitely be considered when looking for a half-ton pick-up that makes financial sense.”

The Toyota Tundra has decent gas mileage

The 2022 Toyota Tundra has one of two engines. The base engine is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. There’s also a 3.5-liter full-hybrid powertrain with 6 cylinders and 437-hp. The Toyota Tundra has pretty good gas mileage, getting about 15 mpg. This will cost about $12,320 over the course of five years. This averages out to about $2,464 per year if they drive approximately 12,000 miles per year.

Likewise, car insurance for the Tundra is pretty good. Car Edge found that insurance for a Tundra costs about $1,571 per year. Car Edge found this estimate by doing a car insurance comparison study that used a hypothetical 40-year old with a good driving record.

Maintenance for the Tundra is also decent, costing roughly $6,738 for the first ten years. It says that this is better than the average truck by about $3,327. There’s an 18.51% chance that the Toyota Tundra will require a major repair over those same ten years, which is 2.99% better than most trucks.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra price starts at $39,695 for the base model SR. This comes with 18-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, and a composite bed. It also has keyless entry and start, an 8-inch touchscreen, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

At the other end of the Tundra spectrum is the Capstone. With power-retractable running boards, rear air suspension, a 360-degree camera, and a 10-inch color head-up display, the $75,225 Tundra Capstone is a luxury truck. In addition, the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone has 22-inch wheels that are dark chrome, as is the Capstone’s grille. You’ll know the Capstone by its look as well as by the Capstone emblem glowing from the passenger-side dashboard. 

The 2022 Toyota Tundra gets great reviews, and it’s no surprise why. It has everything one could need in a pickup truck and lots that one might want. In addition, its cost of ownership is at least comparable to other trucks, making this a truck you might want to put on your shortlist.
