Oh goodness, you better buckle up in the 2022 Toyota Tundra. If you thought the new Toyota Tundra was soft, you better do a double-take. As we learn more about its redesign and off-roading prowess, the Tundra isn’t a truck to be taken lightly.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is ready to go adventuring thanks to a few significant hardware upgrades. For example, the rear suspension now has a coil-spring design. Optional air springs provide automatic load leveling.

It can also be manually controlled to lower the back or to raise it for off-roading. This can help make loading things easier and provides the ability to Carolina Squat. Although, we wouldn’t recommend driving with a squat.

Is the 2022 Tundra stronger?

Yes, the 2022 Toyota Tundra is more capable and more durable. It features the world’s first Islands of Strength Frame. It’s a new ladder frame that improves the rigidity by 20 percent while weighing 10 percent less than the previous model.

The frame incorporations tailored blank technology. The metal blanks feature differing material thickness to place extra material where needed. Lasers weld the materials together along complex curves.

Most of the frame measures about 3 millimeters thick, while the thicker metal is about 4 to 5 mm thick. The larger sections are primarily positioned at stress-concentration points, where a cross-member intersects with side rails or where the rails have a bend or curve.

The Tundra’s maxium payload has been increased to 1,940 lbs and features a new aluminum-reinforced composite bed. But you can still opt for a bed and mat and spray-in liner. Also, the beds are available in 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8.0-foot lengths. The 6.5-foot bed can now be paired with the crew cab too.

You can tow up to 12,000 lbs with the 2022 Tundra, putting it closer to rivals. The trailer backup assist function learns how your trailer behaves and will automatically steer your trailer in the direction you need.

Is the 2022 Tundra TRD Pro worth the upgrade?

Yes, the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is the most capable Tundra ever. It comes standard with the new twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter i-Force Max V6 hybrid that generates 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque.

The TRD Pro gives you 2.5-inch Fox internal bypass units, a front anti-sway bar, and an electronic locking rear differential. It’s the first Tundra with an electronic differential. Also, you can access Multi-terrain Select and Crawl Control.

TRD Pro upgrades also include a 1.1-inch front lift, an aluminum front skid plate, and all-terrain Falken tires. The hybrid engine provides instant torque for a peppy acceleration, and the ride is incredibly smooth and controlled.

We’re still waiting on pricing information to be revealed, but it will probably cost a little over $36,000, which is the starting price of the outgoing model. We’re waiting on official EPA estimates too.

But so far, the 2022 Tundra impresses critics with its vast improvements. The more capable truck could steal dedicated F-150 fans away from Ford.
