We’re so excited and we just can’t hide it. The new Toyota Tundra is finally out. We have been following each breadcrumb to put clues about the 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid, but now we have a bigger picture about what to expect, including a better fuel economy.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid has i-FORCE power

The rumors turned out to be true! We almost can’t contain our excitement about the 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid. With the addition of the i-FORCE engine, the Tundra has gone partially electric. But this isn’t the only new feature to be excited about.

You can see that the Tundra has a brand new face with a massive grille. While some people aren’t too happy with the look, it’s necessary to draw cool air in. Also, there are plenty of exciting interior upgrades including enhanced tech and convenience features.

Along with Hybrid power, the all-new Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is receiving some hefty off-roading upgrades. the front suspension gained an anti-sway bar, Fox 2.5-inch diameter internal bypass dampers with reduced friction, and TRD-tuned coil springs that provide an additional 1.1-inch lift.

Will the Tundra Hybrid have a better fuel economy?

The 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid i-FORCE Max serves as an incredible upgrade. The previous generation Tundra uses a 5.7-liter V8 engine with 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. This offers plenty of power but it really loves to guzzle fuel. 

For example, the 2021 Tundra gets an EPA-estimated 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway. Meanwhile, the Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and on the highway. This is only an improvement of four miles to the gallon.

The official EPA ratings for the Toyota Hybrid haven’t been revealed. However, it’s expected to get at least 25 mpg. This is an incredible upgrade from 17 mpg. Plus, the i-FORCE max engine provides more power.

With the twin-turbo V6 engine and electric motor, you get 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. This puts the old engine to same. If you opt for the gas-powered Tundra you will her 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. This is still a sizable power upgrade to consider.

Also, the Tundra is finally catching up to rivals. The 2021 model can only tow up to 10,200 lbs. But the 2022 Tundra can tow up to 12,000 lbs. You can tow up to 14,000 lbs with the Ford F-150, so the tundra does have a little catching up to do.

What else is new for the 2022 Tundra? 

Aside from highly anticipating a hybrid engine with the 2022 Toyota Tundra, we can expect a better ride. It will use the new TNGA-F platform that underpins the Land Cruiser 300. It’s also ditching the leaf springs for a coil-spring multi-link rear suspension for a smoother ride.

The interior will gain significant improvements. Old, outdated materials and hard plastics have been replaced with modern and more upscale materials. It could acquire a 14.0-inch infotainment screen, and it did receive Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

We can’t wait to test the massive panoramic sunroof and a power-folding rear glass window. The TRD-Pro model shows a flashy red interior color to match its incredible off-roading upgrades. The instrumentation is going digital while maintaining physical controls too. 

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is expected to be available at dealerships toward the end of 2021. The Tundra is being assembled in Texas and celebrates its Texan heritage. Pricing for the new Tundra hasn’t been released. The 2021 model has an MSRP of $34,125, and it could increase by a couple of thousand bucks.
