The 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid is unlike any other Tundra
The 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid is truly the first of its kind. It deviates furthest away from the Japanese full-size pickup truck’s typical powertrain. The Tundra became well-known for its huge V8 engine. Tundra models are usually very powerful with very poor fuel economy.
Toyota found a way to improve fuel efficiency without sacrificing power for the 2022 model year. The base model is much more well-rounded than previous model years. Its hybrid powertain provides even more horses and even better fuel economy.
In the video above, Toyota gives viewers a peek inside what lays underneath the body of a new Toyota Tundra Hybrid. The 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine is paired to a single motor hybrid system. It includes a 10-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case.
A front module conceals the motor generator and clutch, allowing the truck to switch between hybrid and fully electric modes. Few trucks in the Tundra’s segment have a powertrain that’s as unique.
What’s so great about the Toyota Tundra Hybrid?
The 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid is an amazing full-size pickup truck because it is such a huge change from previous model years. The Tundra isn’t normally championed for its ride quality, fuel economy or cabin. Toyota has addressed many of the issues that consumers had with previous Tundra models.
The Tundra Hybrid is special because it makes a whopping 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. Toyota hasn’t released EPA estimates for the hybrid but the internal combustion engine Tundra achieves 18 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. This is a huge uprgade from the 2021 Toyota Tundra’s measely 15 miles per gallon combined.
Should you buy a 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid?

According to Kelley Blue Book, pricing for the 2022 Toyota Tundra starts at $38,950. No price info for the 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid has been released, but chances are it will fall within the $41,950-$44,950 range because of its complex hybrid powertrain.
The new Tundra Hybrid is a better option than the gas model in terms of both power and fuel economy. It still isn’t the best full-size option on the market, but if you’re a fan onf the Tundra, this is the model to get.
