The new Toyota Tundra is a huge win for Japanese automaker Toyota. The latest model year is a major redesign that is using innovative new technology to explore new possibilities in the full-size truck vehicle segment. The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro may just change the way off-road trucks are made forever.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro has a huge off-road advantage

The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is the newest Tundra’s off-road trim. Toyota has been enjoying great success with the Tacoma’s off-roading ability. The Tundra can capitalize off of the success of the Tundra by offering similar off-roading prowess.

The new Tundra TRD Pro is unlike any other off-road pickup truck because of its unique powertrain. It comes standard with the Tundra’s most powerful powertrain option, which happens to be its hybrid powertrain. The Toyota Tundra TRD Pro uses a 3.5-liter V6 i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine and electric motors to make a whopping 437 horsepower. That’s 48 more horses than the Tundra’s internal combustion V6 i-FORCE engine.

The Tundra TRD Pro makes 583 lb-ft of torque. Jeep may have the Wrangler 4xe, but Toyota is one of the few automakers to produce an off-road pickup truck with a hybrid powertrain. Leave it to the brand that created the Prius to find a way to make hybrid powertrains cool.

The 2022 Tundra TRD Pro’s hybrid powertrain gives it more power to make quick work of obstacles thanks to electric motors. Will other automakers follow in Toyota’s footsteps and use electric motors to give off-road trucks power boosts?

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is a huge improvement

According to Road Show by CNET, the new Tundra is “better in every way.” The latest Tundra is the first redesign in over a decade. Tundra fans have complained about the full-size truck’s lack of refinement and outdated technology for years. Toyota clearly heard the concerns of consumers and addressed many common Tundra issues.

The new Tundra uses better cabin materials. It has a more modern, attractive exterior than previous model years. The 2022 Toyota Tundra also has better fuel economy than previous model years.

It achieves 18 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. The 2021 model year gets 13 miles per gallon in the city and 17 miles per gallon on the highway. Toyota also got rid of its V8 engine in favor of a more powerful V6 engine powertrain setup.

The Toyota Tundra has never been a class-leading full-size pickup. It has taken a back seat to more popular pickup trucks like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is a huge improvement from previous model years, but that doesn’t make it the best choice in its vehicle segment. It appeals most to fans of the pickup that have been waiting on an updated Tundra for years. If you’re in the market for a new full-size truck, the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 remain the top choices.
