The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro hopes to claim off-road supremacy against its opponent, the 2022 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss. They provide plenty of value in their own right but are far different from one another.

2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro vs. 2022 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss
The two of these off-road pickup trucks have distinct advantages over one another. The funny thing is that both trucks have a better engine for different reasons. The Silverado has three options that include powerful V8s and Duramax diesel. The Tundra only has a single option and no V8, but its hybrid allows it to be much more fuel-efficient than the Silverado.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado’s lack of a hybrid or electric motor makes it a bit behind the times. Every other full-size pickup truck either has a hybrid option or has one coming soon. Toyota ditched the V8 for the hybrid option, which might’ve been a mistake. We would’ve preferred the V8 to be an optional choice when buying your 2022 Toyota Tundra.
The Tundra TRD Pro is ready for off-road terrains
The Tundra TRD Pro comes with plenty of extras to make sure you’re ready for the road ahead. Features like 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, a TRD Pro off-road suspension with fox shocks, and a 1.1-inch front lift. Multi-terrain select and crawl control allow the pickup truck to change its driving style on harsh surfaces. Stack all those features on top of an electronically controlled locking rear differential, Toyota Safety Sense, a JBL 12-speaker premium audio system, and the Toyota LED light bar on the front grille, and you’ve got yourself one heck of an off-road machine.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss does not come with 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires, but they are available. For an extra $795, the wheel and tire upgrades make the pickup truck more well-equipped for off-road driving. It comes with an auto-locking rear differential, skid plates, and more. The suspension package must have adds a 2-inch lift, off-road suspension with Monotube shocks, hill descent control, and a heavy-duty air filter.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado and 2022 Toyota Tundra are redesigned
The 2022 Chevy Silverado LT trim and higher have a redesigned interior for the new model year. A fresh new look is always a welcomed feature, and the Chevy did it well. Better cabin materials, a more modern layout, and new technology are featured inside Silverado models. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and new active safety features highlight the updates.
The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is brand new for the new model year, and the entire lineup is redesigned. Unlike the interior changes for the Silverado, this redesign affects the whole pickup truck. No more V8 engine, but the fuel-efficient hybrid option bolsters the truck against certain opponents. Redesigned exterior styling and interior design make it look like a whole new pickup truck.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado is less capable
The Toyota Tundra is capable of towing up to 12,000 pounds. Its maximum payload capacity is not official yet, but it has a GVWR of 6,900 pounds. Although the Silverado isn’t far behind, its 9,200 pounds of maximum towing capacity does fall a bit short. The Chevy pickup truck has a GVWR of 6,800 pounds.
Additionally, the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro has an electric motor in its hybrid powertrain. The 36 kW, 48 horsepower motor gives it just a little more power. The electric motor steps in to assist; however, the Silverado’s V8 and diesel engines don’t suffer from the same problem, so an electric motor isn’t necessary.
Which off-road pickup truck is right for you?
The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and the 2022 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss are two pickup truck models capable of just about anything. One is better on gas due to its hybrid powertrain and is also more capable. The pair received hefty updates for the new model year, so both options keep it fresh. Right now, we’d go with the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, but once we receive more information, including the pricing for the Chevy Silverado ZR2 off-road model, we may change our minds.
