2023 Acura Integra Is Fast and Safe With an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating
The 2023 Acura Integra is back with sharp styling and a manual transmission. However, it’s also a safe choice for luxury sports sedan shoppers who want top safety scores. The all-new Integra is the second Acura sports sedan and fourth Acura vehicle to earn a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
How safe is the new 2023 Acura Integra?
The new 2023 Acura Integra isn’t just a compact sports sedan; it’s a safe option for Integra fans. After a nearly 21-year hiatus, the beloved nameplate returns instead of bowing out for the RSX. However, the Integra isn’t a coupe but rather a sports-inspired hatchback sedan. Still, the Integra doesn’t trade safety for sports pedigree.
Instead, the new 2023 Acura Integra earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS. That means the Acura sports sedan earned “Good” ratings in every crashworthiness category and high marks in crash prevention tests. In addition to a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Integra top marks. Specifically, the NHTSA awarded the 2023 Acura Integra five stars for its crash test evaluations.
How is the new Integra safe?
In addition to “Good” ratings in every IIHS crashworthiness category, the new Integra earned “Superior” ratings in IIHS crash avoidance evaluations, including low-speed vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian avoidance tests. Acura says that the Integra’s Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) is the reason for the car’s performance in the collision avoidance tests. The CMBS is part of the marque’s AcuraWatch driver assistance suite.
In addition to the CMBS system, the Integra’s AcuraWatch safety suite includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Road Departure Mitigation. Of course, driver assistance safety suites aren’t unique to Acura. Many modern marques offer driver assistance features like Automated Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control.
What other Acura vehicles have Top Safety Pick+ ratings?
The all-new 2023 Acura Integra isn’t the only Acura vehicle to earn a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS. In addition to the new Integra, the TLX, RDX, and MDX all received top safety scores from the agency. The TLX, the Integra’s closest sibling, earned “Good” ratings in every crashworthiness category and similar ratings in almost every driver injury metric.
However, the TLX earn “Acceptable” and “Marginal” ratings in lower leg and foot injury evaluations during front crash tests. Still, aside from those ratings, the TLX earned a near-perfect safety score sheet from the IIHS.
Is the 2023 Acura Integra out yet?
Fortunately for fans of the reborn Integra and its safety scores, Acura’s projected delivery date for the new sports sedan has already happened. Specifically, CNET says the first 2023 Acura Integra deliveries started in June 2022. The new Integra starts at around $31,895, with three trims. The Integra is a sports sedan with performance pedigree and safety scores that inspire confidence.
