While supply chain disruptions may get in the way of getting an 8 Series in your driveway quickly from your local BMW dealer, the 2023 8 Series began production in March of 2022 according to MotorTrend. With production continuing through summer, more vehicles should be available for purchase throughout the year.

The best way to go about getting the ideal BMW is to build and order precisely what you want from your local dealer. With this strategy, you have your car reserved for you specifically with every feature you want to be included; you won’t have to worry about customers snagging your car off the lot.

How much will the 2023 BMW 8 Series cost?

Starting at $87,500 with the base 840i Coupe, the BMW 8 Series is one of the most expensive coupes on the market today. However, the purpose of the 8 Series wasn’t to save money but to offer a complete and top-of-the-line Grand Touring car experience. If you are curious what the rest of the 8 Series offerings cost, here is a complete rundown:

  • 840i Coupe/Gran Coupe – $87,500 MSRP
  • 840i xDrive Coupe/Gran Coupe – $90,400 MSRP
  • M850i xDrive Coupe/Gran Coupe – $102,500 MSRP
  • M8 Competition Coupe/Gran Coupe – $134,100 MSRP
  • 840i Convertible – $97,100 MSRP
  • 840i xDrive Convertible – $100,000 MSRP
  • M850i xDrive Convertible – $112,100 MSRP
  • M8 Competition Convertible – $143,700 MSRP
  • ALPINA B8 xDrive Gran Coupe – $144,900 MSRP

If you consider the Coupe and Gran Coupe options as different trim levels, the 8 Series has an impressive 13 different offerings to fit your lifestyle. While this series of vehicles is not focused on affordability, they are efficient; the base 840i model gets an impressive 29 mpg out of its 335 hp engine per BMW. Regardless of your budget, good gas mileage is always a welcome feature.

2023 BMW 8 Series specs, changes, and updates

Every BMW 8 Series for 2023 will offer either a 3.0L TwinPower Turbo inline 6 cylinder, or a 4.4L TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine. This makes 335 hp and up to 617 hp respectively. Unfortunately for manual transmission fans, this BMW is only available with an automatic 8-speed transmission, although a manual shifting mode is available.

For 2023, there are a few subtle, yet tasteful changes for the 8 Series. Many BMW critics were concerned that the 8 Series would adopt the extremely large front grille that is found on the M4, which has become a topic of contention between critics and BMW’s designers. However, the 8 Series is keeping its small grille for now, although slightly revised; it now comes illuminated as a standard feature, giving it an unmistakable profile while driving at night.

The cosmetic changes continue with optional packages that feature carbon bucket seats, darker “Shadowline” elements on the front grille and headlights, and even an optional classic BMW logo, commemorating 50 years of the M performance division. The interior also has a slight refresh with a larger center screen.
