Can the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Compete With the World’s Best Sports Cars?
The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette is among the names to beat in the accessible performance car market. However, can the Corvette’s credentials hold up against pricier competition from Europe? Just for fun, we’ll compare the C8 Corvette Stingray and its Z51 package with some of the best sports and performance cars in the world, like the Porsche 911 GTS, 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, and continent-crushing McLaren GT.
Is the 2023 Corvette fast?
The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is fiendishly fast compared to the previous-generation C7 model. That’s saying something, considering the 2015 Stingray could make the sprint to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.
However, adopting a midengine layout allowed the that-much-more-balanced Stingray to smash its previous records, including taking an entire second off the sprint to 60. Of course, for now, the C8 Corvette lineup is without forced induction; the 495-horsepower Stingray Z51 packs a naturally aspirated 6.2L V8. Still, the Corvette’s current range-toppers, the Z06 and incipient E-Ray, are even faster.
How fast is a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette compared to some of the world’s most spectacular sports cars?
Despite a much lower starting price than world-class European competitors, the Stingray Z51 and Z06 hold their own with the best.
0-60 mph | Standing ¼ mile | Skidpad (300ft) | Starting price | |
C8 Corvette Stingray (Z51) | 2.8 seconds | 11.2 seconds | 1.03 g | $65,895 |
C8 Corvette Z06 | 2.6 seconds | 10.5 seconds | 1.16 g | $109,295 |
Porsche 911 Carrera GTS | 2.8 seconds | 10.9 seconds | 1.06 g | $144,050 |
Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 | 3.8 seconds | 12.0 seconds | 1.04 g | $96,850 |
McLaren GT | 2.8 seconds | 10.7 seconds | 1.01 g | $208,490 |
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is swift enough to match the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51’s 0 to 60 mph sprint and outperforms it in the quarter-mile and on the skidpad. However, The GTS’ $144,050 starting price is well over twice the ask for the Stingray. The same goes for the McLaren GT and its luxury supercar credentials; the GT outran the Stingray Z51 in the quarter mile by a half second in Car and Driver’s testing, albeit at over three times the starting price.
How fast will a 2023 Corvette Stingray go?
Chevrolet claims that the 2023 Stingray will reach a top speed of 184 mph, just 2.0 mph more than a comparable 2023 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. Of course, the 670-horsepower Z06 will stretch its legs that much further, to the tune of 189 mph.
