The luxury sport coupe segment contains some of the most advanced cars imaginable. Two of which include offerings from Chevrolet and Porsche. Here, we’ll compare the Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 718 Cayman luxury sports coupes to help you decide which performance car best fits in your garage.

2023 Chevrolet Corvette specs

Based on information from Edmunds, a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray with the lowest 1LT package featuring Chevrolet’s 6.2-liter V8 carried an invoice price of $56,881. It also carried a sticker price of $60,900, and an average purchase price of $61,500. The 2023 Chevy Corvette starts at $64,200. A few minutes of adding options on Chevrolet’s build-and-price tool had a fully tricked-out 70th Anniversary Edition 3LT Vette’s price climbing toward $100K. 

The good news is that you don’t need to spend $100K to get supercar performance from a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette. Even the base 1LT Corvette features a 490-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 mounted behind the passenger compartment, an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and unmistakable Corvette styling. 

The folks at Car and Driver pointed out that they’d choose the 2LT trim for under $73K. This gets Chevrolet’s head-up display, wireless smartphone charging, heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, premium 14-speaker stereo system, and blind-spot monitoring. Then they’d add the Z51 performance package for $6,345. This includes a limited-slip rear differential and better brakes, for a total price of nearly $80K. In contrast, the 1LT version with the Z51 performance package comes in under $72K. 

2023 Porsche 718 Cayman specs

Using the same Edmunds information as before, we find the base model 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman featuring a 300-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-four engine had an invoice price of $54,450, a starting price of $60,500, and people paid an average of $60, 698.

According to Porsche’s website, the starting price for a 2023 Porsche 718 Cayman is $63,400. Adding performance options like adaptive sport seats, Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) seven-speed automatic transmission, active suspension management, and torque vectoring with mechanically locking rear differential drives the price beyond $77K.

The 2023 Porsche 718 Cayman comes in six versions. These include the base model 718 Cayman, the 718 Cayman T, the 718 Cayman S, and the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. It also includes the 718 Cayman GT4 and the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. For 2022, the Car and Driver team recommended the GTS 4.0 for their money. 

The 2023 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 starts at $90,300. It features a 394 horsepower 4.0-liter flat six-cylinder engine with 309 lb-ft of torque when equipped with the six-speed manual and 317 lb-ft in the PDK automatic-equipped version. Adding performance options similar to those added to the base 718 Cayman earlier raises the price to over $98K. 

The top-of-the-line 718 Cayman GT4 RS starts at about $149K. After adding options like the $13,250 Weissach Package that includes exposed carbon fiber details and other accents, $3,380 3D-printed body-formed driver’s seat, $3,040 front axle lift system, and $8,000 ceramic composite brakes, drive the price to about $180K.

Which luxury sport coupe should be in your garage?

If you want the most performance for the money, the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette is your choice. However, the 2023 Porsche 718 Cayman is a purpose-built luxury sport coupe aimed at dominating the track. In contrast, the Corvette is unapologetically a luxury sport coupe built for long drives on twisty roads on the way to a weekend getaway.
