By now, you’ve surely seen Chevy’s debut of the new 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The new mid-engined Z06 was introduced primarily by Emilia Hartford (owner of the world’s fastest base C8 ‘Vette), and Justin Bell (legendary racing driver). In the first moments of the release, which you can watch below, Bell said the new Z06 was “tantalizingly attainable.” That’s a statement that may not play so well for Chevrolet.

The why is somewhat complicated. Between the chip shortage and the car’s as-yet-unannounced pricing, those may be mighty big words from Bell.

Justin Bell says the Z06 is “attainable”

Frankly, Chevrolet seems to have mixed their narratives a little bit with the new Z06. At the start of the new car’s debut, Justin Bell said the word “attainable” in reference to a car that costs as much as a down payment on a two-bed condo. Later, the Z06’s powertrain engineer said the Z06 was playing in the exotic space with a “low volume, precision motor.”

Those are two ideas that don’t really go hand-in-hand. However, to be fair to Chevrolet, “attainable” likely means “realistic dream car.” Many car enthusiasts have one. A car they dream of where money is an object, and one that can sometimes be hard to come by. And, to be fair, the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 fits rather well into that niche.

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 may not be so attainable

That becomes especially true when you examine the values of the 2019 Z06. Even now, with chip shortage in mind, the old Z06 is a sub-$70,000 car thanks to depreciation. It’s possible we could see a similar situation in several years’ time with the new one. However, we are rooted in the here and now. And right now, Chevrolet hasn’t told us how much the Z06 will be.

That said, let’s operate on our estimated $86,400 MSRP. Rough math reveals you’re looking at around north of $1,200 a month on a 48-month lease. That’s more than some people pay for rent. When you factor in a loan on the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, you’re looking at more like $2,000 a month, plus regular maintenance on a “low-volume, precision motor.” Not ideal, but to some, this can certainly be attainable with a good pay raise and a steady job.

Don’t let $100,000 stop you

While that kind of disposable income may not be commonplace for a good number of Americans, it is something that we can all aspire to, realistic or not. Really, there’s simply too many factors to list to evaluate a person’s ability to spend $1,100-$2,000+ a month on a Z06. But don’t let that stop you. Chevy wants you to chase your dreams and buy a Z06. It’s cheaper than much of the 600+ hp Porsche-shaped competition, and it’ll surely be a riot.
