Dealers often sell a particular model because of the manufacturer’s attractive and abundant customization packages. Sometimes they boost the vehicle’s resale value or noticeably improve performance. Is this option worth the spend, and does it add any value to the Bolt EUV?

There’s plenty to like about the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV (Electric Utility Vehicle). This crossover SUV is a bit taller and chunkier than its corporate sibling, the Chevrolet Bolt EV hatchback.

Starting at $27,200, the 2023 Bolt EUV’s base-model LT packs a 65 kWh lithium-ion battery producing 200 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. With this powertrain, expect 247 miles of range — good but not segment-topping. Using DC fast-charging capability, you can charge it with up to 100 miles of range in approximately 30 minutes.

Starting at $31,700, the only other trim — the Premier — has the same powertrain, chassis, cabin, and cargo space. So what distinguishes these two models?

Both the LT and Premier provide an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control, keyless open and start, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a rear-view camera. They also have a 10.2-inch-touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, an 8.0-inch driver information display, a six-speaker sound system, and other amenities.

The Premier adds adaptive cruise control, ambient door lighting, a 360-degree camera system, and heated rear seats. Also, options such as built-in navigation are available only for the Premier trim.

Is the Redline Edition package worth $495?

And now, the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Redline Edition is available for both the LT and Premier models. The Redline Edition adds a black and red Bolt EUV badge to the exterior, a red accent decal on the outside mirror caps, 17-inch glossy black aluminum wheels with red accents, and interior black leather trim with red stitching, according to Chevrolet.

You can purchase the Redline Edition package with any 2023 Bolt EUV painted Summit White, Silver Flare Metallic, or Mosaic Black Metallic for an additional $495.

The Redline Edition undoubtedly makes the Bolt EUV more attractive. However, this package enhances only styling, not performance. Though the name might make you envision an enhanced suspension or a souped-up powertrain, the Redline Edition won’t have you racing down a drag strip.

That said, this appearance package might slightly increase the EUV’s resale value. But is the Redline Edition worth an extra $495? It is if you’d like a sportier-looking Bolt EUV. Otherwise, skip this package.

The best 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV upgrade to consider

One 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV upgrade we think is worth the extra $2,000 is Super Cruise. It promises to make driving less tedious and more enjoyable. General Motors’ semiautonomous system allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel on 400,000 miles (and growing) of U.S. highways.

Now, despite some public misconceptions, Super Cruise is not fully autonomous driving. That means that although you can take your hands off the wheel, you can’t turn your attention away from it. Vehicles equipped with Super Cruise have internal sensors that monitor your facial expressions for signs of alertness. If you become distracted, the system will disengage.

Semiautonomous technology is still in its infancy. And though Super Cruise is remarkable, it cannot yet account for all possible road conditions. You might need to regain control of your vehicle in a split second. Nevertheless, using Super Cruise and adaptive cruise control on long stretches of highway can make for a more pleasant experience. So if you’re considering upgrading the 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV, your money is better spent on Super Cruise than the Redline Edition.
