General Motors has ensured that its small truck is ready for the road less traveled by offering multiple off-road trims to the new Colorado. Whether it be the 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss or the ZR2 package, this is a 4×4 truck that is capable of legitimate off-roading. 

Can you off-road a 2023 Colorado?

Not every new Chevy Colorado will be good for off-road use. But, there are options available to help you take the road less traveled. The top trim for this mid-size truck is the ZR2. If you are familiar with Chevy trucks, you likely recognize it. This pickup uses a 2.7-liter turbocharged, high-output engine. It should make 310 horsepower and 430 pound-foot of torque. It also boasts a lift kit and wider chassis. 

A step down from the ZR2 package is the Chevy Colorado Z71. This trim uses the same engine and comes standard with all-terrain tires. It also features four different drive modes to help optimize your pickup for the current conditions. Better yet, it will probably be more affordable than the ZR2. 

What is the Chevy Colorado Trail Boss?

The Trail Boss trim is new for 2023, and it boasts the same widened chassis as the ZR2. Also notable is its factory lift, but it will not be as rugged as the one found on the Colorado ZR2. In terms of power, it will make less torque, but it will have the same level of hp. 

In terms of off-road features, Chevy has added a two-speed transfer case and a shield to protect it. Plus, the interior does look fairly rugged. As a mid-size truck, the Trail Boss trim will likely be a hit among enthusiasts. Especially if it is priced right. 

Is the 2023 Chevy Colorado out yet?

If you want to buy a 2023 Colorado, you will need to wait. This mid-size truck is expected to arrive at some point in 2023. According to Car and Driver, it is all-new. And that will help it compete with the new generation of the Nissan Frontier. Chevy has stated that the new Colorado will be able to tow up to 7,700 lbs. 

Additionally, this pickup will have up to 10 different camera views. And that is the mark of a truly modern vehicle. Other notable features include standard safety tech, which should add to driver confidence. And some might even come in handy while you are on the trail. 

Pricing for the 2023 Chevy Colorado has not yet been confirmed. But it will likely start around $30,000, with models like the ZR2 climbing well above that. Once Chevy’s new mid-size truck is released, it will likely be a hot commodity. Chevy has not updated the Colorado in nearly ten years. And that is a fairly long time for a model to be in production. So, the new generation will be a welcome addition.
